Problem using Dogpile Search Engine
-
Whenever I search for anything through the Search Module, with Dogpile as my default search engine, I am automatically redirected to a page where I have verify my willingness to proceed. For example, upon entering "vivaldi forum" I am immediately redirected to a page with the following URL:
http://omblockedips.com/?honeypot¶ms=scQGCBr6e0r3MWEYqEkaEcFAsrO-M6SdiEmeNvHgdVHrjZrRRu4ITQGVa18fK3RmYF6IhYZkxGEs2KAtP0PW7u9yzrMYvLRK23xsBqOvhXk6h0Uz_owU0EcaRivezjjUZZMS6zm3fK9uLYBvSTU5z_3FOaCBj0L8sLBkYiNjDvNt4hBP3m98KE0PFRainAUwo4u-ECBWbGJys5hNUg6AZDcXkI1tYpr8J4jeJDrQ
Obviously, I would like to get rid of this.

@wwkirk Donβt know what you are trying to do. Add
https://www.dogpile.com/serp?q=%s&sc=6UDIgWgfoDCs20
as proper search engine and it makes a normal websearch on dogpile and shows a result screen. -
@wwkirk Hello and Welcome to the Vivaldi Community
This has nothing to do with Vivaldi. You've probably installed some extension that overrides your searches.
How did you add this Dogpile search? Through an extension?
Check that you have the working search URL for Dogpile in Settings > Search.
https://www.dogpile.com/search?q=%s
EDIT: Also, what is this "Search Module"?
I suspect you've installed malware on your system. -
@pathduck Ignore the "Search Module" reference. I'm sure you're right about an extension causing mischief. Specifically, I installed "ImTranslator" last night, and the problem appeared soon afterwards.
I have removed the extension, but I'm still getting the redirect. How do I get things back to nomal?
-
@luetage The problem appears to be caused by an extension I added. I have since removed it, but how do I restore things to the way they were before?
-
@wwkirk Try just restarting the browser first.
Also check Settings > Search and set Dogpile as default.
-
@pathduck I've tried both, but the redirect is still happening.
-
@wwkirk How are you sure it's the "ImTranslator" extension? It looks like a legit extension, I just tried installing it, and it does not override searches.
I suspect something else might be going on. When searching for "Search Module" I find references to a browser hijacker malware.
Check also URL
chrome://settings/searchEngines
if you notice anything.
Defaults should be DDG, Google, Yahoo, Bing and maybe Ecosia.Make sure to also check the URL and Suggest URL of your selected engine in Vivaldi Settings > Search, that it actually points to the proper domain.
-
@pathduck I can't be certain IMTranslator is responsible. Everything else you mentioned checks out.
Is there a Malware removal tool you can recommend?
Or maybe I'll need to reinstall Vivaldi?

Try disabling all extensions you've installed and restart the browser.
Expand the extensions list fromvivaldi://system
and paste here in a code block. Is there a Malware removal tool you can recommend?
Not really, I use a proper antivirus (Avast) and don't rely on the on-demand scanners. But people talk about Malwarebytes a lot so maybe that works.
Or maybe I'll need to reinstall Vivaldi?
A reinstall rarely solves anything unless you also remove your profile at the same time and lose all your data. IMO better to investigate what might be causing the issue and fix it.
Also go through the troubleshooting tips:
https://help.vivaldi.com/desktop/troubleshoot/troubleshooting-issues/
A clean profile will most likely fix things. If it doesn't then something is running on your system doing this. -
@wwkirk Where did you install it from, the webstore? And is it this one β https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/imtranslator-translator-d/noaijdpnepcgjemiklgfkcfbkokogabh/? I can hardly believe this comes with malware.
-
Maybe it's not the culprit. In any case, I've decided to restart from scratch. I'll be more attentive in the future. Thanks.
