Message not marked as read and thus shows up as unread on Gmail
-
I have to right-click and select mark as read to update Gmail. Does anyone know why that is? I tried reading the whole email and scrolling but to no avail. The email selected does change colour in the list from blue bold to white bold but that's it. Clicking mark as read removes the bold and it is then marked as read on Gmail also but that requires manual intervention. I am sure I am missing something but nothing comes to mind! I have had the same problem for months also btw.

You're not missing anything. Vivaldi Mail does not mark your mails read automatically. You'll have to press
k
or the button you have mentioned.
There is a request to change this behaviour such that mails are automatically marked read after viewing them or viewing them for x seconds.I see why this work flow may be irritating, but then again it would be weird if selected mails would just disappear from views after clicking the next mail. I guess that the vivaldi team will come up with a solution for this, feel free to upvote this linked request or state your ideas there for now.

@aashish108 @jumpsq
I personally always use the G shortcut, which marks as read and moves to the next unread mail. -

Thanks for the explanation and the link! The thing is that's exactly what I do in Gmail! I just select and it marks as read. Ah welllll.

@gmg Thanks for that, will remember that now

I tend to forget that
Unread
is actually not the default view and most people probably useAll Messages
. Yes, then gmg's suggestion to useG
definitely is the better one -
