Opening from history in new tab by default
-
If you open some tab from bookmarks panel it opens in the new tab, but when you want to do this in history panel it opens in an active tab, which is confusing and frustrating.
Opening from history in new tab by default would fix it. -
@gregor Opening bookmarks in a new tab is not the default. One has to enable it in Settings, Bookmarks:
Open Bookmarks in New TabI suppose that the History Panel could respect that setting, but that would be a bit odd.
-
That's why we need new option for history only or new default behavior.
-
@gregor The question is “How best to implement this?”
I don't think opening links from history in a new tab by default is the right solution. I am happy with the current behaviour, and using Shift+Click or Middle-click to open bookmark, history, or webpage links in new tabs.

using Shift+Click or Middle-click to open bookmark
Shift+Click do nothing for me and Middle-click was always intuitive for opening in the background.

Create an option "Open history panel links in new tab" and add it to Settings/Tabs.

@gregor
Maybe ↓
Use Multi-button mouse and Just assign Shift-Click (or Alt-Click) to your taste button. -
@gregor It's double-click, together by holding SHIFT to new tab, or holding CTRL to background tab.
It's not the best method, because you might open multiple tab by accident if you have already selected one item & proceed to SHIFT/CTRL + double-click another item. LOL
I upvote your idea. But if it's implanted, then it should still respect holding SHIFT & CTRL key with changing cursor as indication.

Is it possible to apply the "Open Bookmarks in New Tab" option to the History Panel as in 4.1.x and earlier versions?
I'm a lazy person, so I've been using the history panel regularly as a replacement for "bookmarks".
However, since 4.2.x, even with the option enabled, I can't open an entry as a new tab with a double left click, which is very inconvenient for me because I have to use the hard-to-press center mouse button or take additional actions.
I've seen a similar request (https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/67364/opening-from-history-in-new-tab-by-default), but for me a special option is not essential; I just want it to revert to the same behavior as past versions.
-
P.S.
That behavior was actually changed in 4.1.x, not 4.2.x. So what I'm looking for is the behavior in 4.0.x. -
@jyorkp90 An option is almost always better than changing the default behaviour. Please vote for the existing request.
Right-click, Open in New Tab is a simple alternative.
-
@pesala The original behaviour should be restored, that is, double-clicking should open a history link in a new tab. I see no good reason to have altered in the first place, please put it back to the original way.
