i tried eveything, even that, even in safe mode, weird is that the other browsers dont have any issues
k, got rogers cable modem, hitron, to be the router and not just the gateway for the asus router ac86u............so far its been really good, its only been 10min but vivaldi just seems snappier, fingers crossed,
if its the ac86u i can do a reset and see how that goes........but why just vivaldi? wtf -
@vinny36 Most routers have built-in firewalls with their own quirks and rules. Some are only wide-open for "known" software, which Vivaldi never is.

FIXED
ok, seems all good now after months of ts,
saved a backup config for asus router ac86u with vivaldi borked.
performed a factory reset, vivaldi now working perfect with asus default settings.
restored my backup router settings and still vivaldi running really good, maybe not as fast as with default settings, sometimes takes 1 or 2 seconds longer to load facebook and yahoo news but no more long pauses b4 pages starts to load slowly.
why was router only borking vivaldi and not the other browsers? idk. but its all working great now -

maybe spoke too soon, its been a few hours and its happening again, but im 99% sure its something in my router settings that, weirdly, only effects vivaldi.
going down the rabbit hole -
sharing my fix
Go to Settings > Search "blocking" > Scroll down to Exceptions> Click "+" icon and type "https://www.facebook.com" then select "No Blocking"
Close Vivaldi browser and Open, than should be it!

It's back, and it's much worse. I can now type blind for several minutes, then go get a cup of coffee, and when I get back the stuff I just typed may or may not be onscreen yet. When it comes, it's the whole thing all at once. It doesn't dribble in like I type. It's terribly annoying, so when I remember to, I type into Notepad and then paste that into the FB dialog.

@TDHofstetter Something on your system, or some modification/extension(s) you have added to Vivaldi is causing this. It's not a trait of the browser itself.

@TDHofstetter And Vivaldi has not been. Yet its changes have been compatible with millions of systems.
Do you use any 3rd party security software? Some of this gets indigestion when software updates.
Do you use any extensions? Some of these need updating or can't handle changes - or were designed for a no-longer-valid environment.
Are any of your drivers out of date?
Is any of your firmware out of date?
None of my many systems complain about Vivaldi updates. Why yours? Facebook "just works" here. Why not there?

@Ayespy So you're saying that my static system is the problem but certainly not Vivaldi, which is in near-constant flux. I know there are a lot of people out there in the Internet who complain about the same things I'm complaining about, so it's clearly not isolated to my box.
As to your questions: I use no third-party security software and the few extensions I use are absolutely up-to-date.
My drivers? Really? For a problem that happens only between Facebook dialogs and Vivaldi?
I'm not saying this problem is definitely a Vivaldi problem. It may be Vivaldi, it may be Facebook dialogs. It may be Donald Trump. It would just be good if someone with some access to source code and a profiler to figure out what the problem is and get rid of it. It's only been happening to me (this time) for about a week, but it's happened before. That time the problem disappeared spontaneously after some time.
Of all the players in this situation... my system is the most static.

Hi, we have these issues after every major update of Vivaldi, extensions work for years stop working or create strange errors.
You can simply test this with the Guest Profile, it exclude all settings, extensions and, the worst case, a broken profile.https://help.vivaldi.com/article/guest-view/

"We" don't. I run nine machines, four OSes (Win 11, Win 10, ArchLinux, Android) with Vivaldi, and I don't have issues on updates. True, some few users do - and every time it happens, Ambassadors, Mods and Devs try to figure out what it is on that person's system or that person's kind of system.
Vivaldi now builds and maintains the browser for seventeen different platforms. I only test four of them. I do so with Stable (updated each eight weeks or so), Snapshot (updated around weekly) and internal test version (updated about daily, sometimes more often). But issues on updates are surprisingly rare, because internal automated testing is quite thorough.
Therefore, when stuff I haven't seen (molasses Facebook, for instance) crops up with a user, I always try to help them poke around and find out if there could be a local cause.

I meant after every update we have some user with issues they never had before and they think it is Vivaldi's fault but it is not.
If Facebook were very slow for all Vivaldi user the forum would explode of posts. -
@mib3berlin Thank you. That was actually helpful. Now to wait until it starts happening again so I can test it (it tends to happen in later afternoons and evenings, very seldom in the morning hours, and it comes and goes).

Are you still on Win7?And how would either of these have anything to do with the very specific scenario in which typing into Facebook dialogs on Vivaldi consumes "150%" [sic, from the VTM] of my CPU? Intermittently, seldom in the morning hours and usually severely in the late afternoon and evening hours? Is there some secret-but-known issue that we haven't discussed here? If so, would you be so kind as to inform the rest of us?

I had the same issue time ago....
I noticed Facebook is way faster with adblock disabled for the site (I use ublock origin) so the slowiness might be a faulty list or the fact FB is partially broken with ads off especially if video autoplay is on:

Tested again few days ago with blocker on and got a broken feed (which is a sign of a faulty filterlist).
Is clearly not a (good) solution, but should make facebook usable again.

For all we know it's a bug that was fixed in later versions you can't update to. Or some incompatiblity between your old OS and FB. Impossible to tell.

I came here mostly to see what others have done to alleviate the issue and felt compelled to comment about the fact that this same issue had resurfaced recently and had gotten really pretty bad. You see, when people remain silent about things like this, then no feedback gets back to the people who ought to be informed; the feedback loop remains open. Nothing gets fixed. When feedback keeps coming back, then the developers and maintainers never lapse into thinking "nobody ever complains, so I guess all my stuff is right"... a mindset that nobody wants to foster.
So...
