Email Oddity... Does This Happen To Anyone Else?
-
I have used V now ever since version 4.0 came out, mainly because of the built-in email feature that was included from 4.0 onward. I very much like the fact that I can use one application that has the ability to function as more than web browser.
That being said, I find that each time I upgrade the stable version of V thru official channels, the email portion of this app has shown a very strange behavior, at least on my Arch system.
After each stable upgrade, the passwords to each and every email account I have (currently 7 accounts) disappear from the email settings. The first time it happened to me, it about drove me to distraction trying to troubleshoot what had happened.
Until the upgrade, email had worked flawlessly. Then all the sudden after the upgrade, I would get messages down in the status bar that V couldn't connect to my email servers. It took me some time, most likely due to the fact that V was a new application to me, and I was still learning how to navigate the ins-and-outs of it. But I did finally track down the problem, which was that all email servers I had previously configured had blank authentication password entries. All other configured information was there, and correct, just the passwords were gone.
After reentering all passwords for all servers, V was once again happily doing it's job of checking and retrieving emails.
The oddity is that this happens to me each time V gets a stable upgrade. I only run the stable version, no snapshots or dev versions, just stable. Now that I know where to look, and what to look for, it's not a huge burden for me to reenter all the passwords again after an upgrade, but it has gotten me to wondering if this is something that happens to me only, or have any of you other V users experienced this?
Is this a feature that is included by design, maybe as a safety feature, or do many others of you have this happen? Or is it limited to my system?
I'm curious to know, because if it is something that is largely limited to my Arch system, then I'd like to continue to troubleshoot things, and find out what is causing it.
BTW, I'm loving the new features of today's upgrade, particularly the selected text translation!
TIA for reading this long-winded post!!

hmm, this has never happened to me and I've been using the beta mail client since day 1. It's certainly not by design. When you upgrade you don't have the browser running in the background right?
Have you searched the dedicated sub-forum for anything related https://forum.vivaldi.net/category/191/vivaldi-mail , as this section is kinda constricted to Linux & mail ? -
@npro I always shut down V before doing an upgrade, so I don't think that's my problem. I will check out that section of the forum to see if there are any clues to be found there. Thanks for the link!!
