Solved How to zoom into a portion of the browser screen
-
I am fully aware that it is possible to zoom the entire tab in increments of 10% by the toolbar, the shortcut keys and touchpad gestures but I was wondering if it was possible to zoom into a portion of the tab when using touchpad gestures as I feel like this a somewhat important accessibility feature that vivaldi is missing (or I don't know how to enable it, etc.)
Here is an example-
This is zooming in with chromium using the touchpad gestureAnd here is the same page zooming in with vivaldi using the touchpad gesture
In the latter screenshot, the entire tab zooms in so cuz of responsiveness of the page, all the contents get displaced which can be a bit annoying when you are using a smaller screen.
I hope that there is a way to change the zooming in of the page when using gestures to make it feel more natural for notebook users or that it gets implemented if it isn't yet.
(mod edit: put large animations behind expanders )

But the way that Vivaldi handles zoom, in discrete steps of 10, makes it way worse on touchpads.
Disable the ctrl+Scroll wheel to make pinch zoom work nicely.

I'd like to second this post. Zooming on touchpad in Vivaldi SUCKS. Vanilla Chromium does a good job with zooming on a touchpad to begin with. It's very smooth and natural. But the way that Vivaldi handles zoom, in discrete steps of 10, makes it way worse on touchpads.
But I can tell that it's at least possible for Vivaldi to have smooth zoom... after all, when viewing PDFs, zooming on a touchpad is smooth AF. I'd really like it if they bring back this smooth zoom feature from Chromium, at least for when you're using a touchpad.

@drakinite FYI, zooming the entire page (in the way that OP asked for) is already possible in Vivaldi. When I zoom a page using a gesture on a touch screen, the entire page is enlarged, as in the first animation (tested in Vivaldi on Windows 10). So I guess it's a matter of changing the behavior assigned to the touchpad gesture, rather than implementing a new feature.
There is a request for a similar feature, but it didn't catch too much attention.

@wildente That's a good find! I didn't know about it, and as I don't have any touchpads to test this on, I'd like to hear from someone who does, if it actually works as expected.

@pafflick it does. This is a topic that comes up again and again. Maybe there is a way to make that setting more obvious.
