OMG! That is not the way to get a date with @guigirl.
You are soooo geeek!PS: you need to fly a long way south to meet her, poor ducky.

@guigirl Sleep well, dear.
-
@DoctorG Just trying too hard I guess?
Better go with the tried and true then... -
If @guigirl is still trying to figure out the various Ventura references (though probably not), MacOS seems to like naming versions after places in California, OTOH, Ace Ventura was a character in a couple of comedy movies years ago (Ace Ventura, Pet Detective and Ace Ventura, Call of the Wild).
-
@sgunhouse I was thinking of the other Ventura
-
@TbGbe I'm sure there are others out there somewhere ...

Not sure whether they will come back. I mean they were always best in their class and then this happened. Vivaldi should really provide a checkbox for excellent humans to circumvent all this spam prevention nonsense.
Can't vote more than once so here are +10 .

@npro Golly, what an amazeballs thread! It feels that whilst i slept, a supernova flashed bright & clear, but then in an instant was brutally silenced, forever gone, leaving nothing to "show" but a modest "best in class" black hole.
That's it; no more sleeping for me -- it's just too galactically dangerous!
Btw, mega-kudos to @luetage, coz this was one of your best "subtle snarks"; the advanced craftspersonship shines through [albeit less brightly than a supernova, maybe only a prettydamngoodnova shining (redrum?)].

In Minor update (5) for Vivaldi Desktop Browser 5.3:
(comparing to e.g. github where users can read AND participate in issues).
Tester/User comment from Hell.
Oh yes, Vivaldi is so bad and others create better …
Hahahhaaa. Github reports are so useful and never a mess. Really? Not!
User participate? We have a forum for this. A bug tracker is no discussions place. -

A bug tracker is no discussions place.
I absolutely agree. However, I do think it would help if the team opened the tracker a little bit for status information, so users won't feel like their reports end up in a "black hole".
For instance I have participated in reporting bugs for Mediamonkey, they have a public tracker however users can't in general log in and comment:
https://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/I have also noticed that the bug report page contains a "This is my issue" link, however it seems random what issues are linked and I can't just change the parameter like:
https://vivaldi.com/bugreport/?bug=VB-90019If that page could list a basic status and allow the user to update the report I think it would help a lot.
-
@Pathduck I am not happy with the current JIRA tracker solution. Some internal testers have asked months/years ago the dev team to open status information. May be they change their mind if such interface can be easily added without more work to be done between tracker and versioning system. But that is my guess. Not more.
-
@Pathduck The worst report system i have ssen was the Debian issue report script in OS and their broken tracker which messes with bug numbers from mail subject.

Unfortunately, attached images get "nuked" after some time
OMZ, really?
So, are you saying then that each of us who, over the years, has pasted in pics to our posts, regardless if serious or fun, will eventually find 100% of old posts are entirely text-based, with all original pics gone? That's going to make future readers, trying to understand posts' meanings, have an impossible difficulty in many cases.
-
@guigirl Not sure of the details here, it might only apply to GIFs as they probably take up a lot more space than other images?
This is the one @stardepp tried to post, gives a 404:
https://forum.vivaldi.net/assets/uploads/files/1655359889895-jonoffersvivaldi.gifHowever:
https://forum.vivaldi.net/assets/uploads/files/1609873932114-jonoffersvivaldi.gif
The id of that one seems older (?) than the other one, but it's still alive.
This seems to be the oldest "jonoffersvivaldi" GIF - made by @Ornorm
https://forum.vivaldi.net/post/425488Taking a look at some of your "assets" - they are fine (as expected)
https://forum.vivaldi.net/search?term=assets&in=posts&matchWords=all&by=guigirl&sortBy=timestamp&sortDirection=desc&showAs=posts&page=50Oldest from @stardepp are gone though:
https://forum.vivaldi.net/post/279300This is the oldest upload I can find from me, still there:
https://forum.vivaldi.net/post/231726Maybe they just had a disk crash, and thought "oh well, old files who cares..."
What I'm basically saying is we can't rely on old images sticking around "forever"...
-
@Pathduck Great research, ta for going to the trouble. Not wishing to sound histrionic, but your earlier post really shocked me, from a digital archaeology perspective. Your latest post is more encouraging, albeit it feels like there's still room for some doubt.
PS
I'm not quite sure yet exactly how i feel about my "assets" being mulled over publicly.

Like finally writing the song in English?
Btw, you're incredible. I didn't know that you read the German forum.
