@sgunhouse Ack, you're a mere baby then!

How sad it is that something as beautiful as differential algebra, with all the good this ingenious human creation can do in the world, is also applicable to human slaughter & associated monstrosities.

@guigirl said in I promote the Vivaldi browser once again:
Earlier today i read this, https://www.makeuseof.com/things-to-do-after-installing-pop-os/, & was appalled at many of the silly recommendations. Ofc, the stupidest one of all was #10, being

switching to PopOS?
Heehee, i agree that with the number of posts i make about it, one might indeed think i have some deep dark secret here...
Tbh it is entirely the fault of a certain Pommie occasionally seen around here who shall not be named; his shocking decision kinda sorta made me curious to learn about & keep up with news about that distro. Otoh, i do try to keep up with many distros & DEs, coz i am weird enough to find all this stuff interesting & fun.
Maybe if win7 had simply not given me that one final BSoD that tipped me over the edge in Dec 2013, today i'd still not know about Nix & would still be a happy content windozer, cheerfully enjoying all the win10 advertisements on the desktop, in its browser, & in its file manager, & not even realising that a customisable UI is even a thing!

Hey, what happened? A gal dares to eat dinner & watch some NF, only to discover later that a whole thread got vaporised?
I mean, sure, it was a weird thread, & IMO it stretched credulity rather, but still... b4 dinner, IMO it had all been quite civil.
Ooooohhhh, i see. It seems that the OP has buggered off, & taken their thread with them. Geeeez Louise!
Bravely bold Sir Robin rode forth from Camelot.
He was not afraid to die, O brave Sir Robin!
He was not at all afraid to be killed in nasty ways,
Brave, brave, brave, brave Sir Robin!
He was not in the least bit scared to be mashed into a pulp,
Or to have his eyes gouged out, and his elbows broken;
To have his kneecaps split, and his body burned away;
And his limbs all hacked and mangled, brave Sir Robin!
His head smashed in and his heart cut out
And his liver removed and his bowels unplugged
And his nostrils raped and his bottom burned off
And his pen--
Brave Sir Robin ran away.
Bravely ran away, away!
When danger reared its ugly head,
He bravely turned his tail and fled.
Yes, brave Sir Robin turned about
And gallantly he chickened out.
Bravely taking to his feet
He beat a very brave retreat,
Bravest of the brave, Sir Robin!
He is packing it in and packing it up
And sneaking away and buggering up
And chickening out and pissing off home,
Yes, bravely he is throwing in the sponge... -

Over the dreary millennia of my existence, i've watched numerous movies & tv shows wherein, as part of the plot development, various goodies or baddies are seen opening suitcases filled to the brim with neatly sorted & stacked piles of note currency. It doesn't seem to matter if it's merkan dollars, pommie pounds, strayan wombatdung, Triganic Pu, Altairian dollars, Flanian Pobble Beads, or even Ningi... invariably, the stacks of notes neatly efficiently & fully fill the suitcases. There's no odd spare spaces, no folding over of some notes to fit in, no inconvenient overlapping. Nope, in every case [boom tish, try the fish] the notes fit in perfectly.
Isn't it simply amazing how suitcase makers across the universe [the long & winding road, while my guitar gently weeps] incorporate as a major design criterion, that every suitcase must have a W x L entirely matched exactly for all galactically known currencies?

That's the crucial point. Here's what happens if you keep your money loose in a suitcase.

But, but.... I had always thought it was the currency size specifications that ensured the fit. Was I wrong
-
@tbgbe Egads sir! Methinks with this astute observation you have now opened up a currency-themed philosophical argument, easily the rival of the classic "if a tree falls in a forest &
nobody
hears it, is it because some foolish noob went wild & nuked that user?". -

Apparently you don't know about Windows 11, which is the one with the ads. Those of us who didn't "upgrade" to it don't have ads in the file manager. (At least, not yet.) Still not as good as KDE of course.
-
@sgunhouse Dad has win10. It has ads blatantly appearing on its desktop, near the system tray. It's obscene.
-
@guigirl He must have adware then (besides Windows), as this machine doesn't do that. Either that or MS isn't interested in older equipment. (This laptop being a mere 5 years old,), or the manufacturer blocked that particular "update", which I wouldn't expect from HP.
-
@sgunhouse said in six × nine = ?:

No, it is MS sponsored ads; they're entirely proud of it even... the arseholes.
-
@guigirl As I said, that would imply HP actually blocked that "update" on my system, pretty much unheard of, Hence I remain skeptical.
-
@sgunhouse Perhaps it's the news and interests feature? It looks like "ads", though it can be disabled with just two clicks.
