... made me curious to learn about & keep up with news about that distro. Otoh, i do try to keep up with many distros & DEs, coz i am weird enough to find all this stuff interesting & fun.
You're welcome

Over the dreary millennia of my existence, i've watched numerous movies & tv shows wherein, as part of the plot development, various goodies or baddies are seen opening suitcases filled to the brim with neatly sorted & stacked piles of note currency. It doesn't seem to matter if it's merkan dollars, pommie pounds, strayan wombatdung, Triganic Pu, Altairian dollars, Flanian Pobble Beads, or even Ningi... invariably, the stacks of notes neatly efficiently & fully fill the suitcases. There's no odd spare spaces, no folding over of some notes to fit in, no inconvenient overlapping. Nope, in every case [boom tish, try the fish] the notes fit in perfectly.
Isn't it simply amazing how suitcase makers across the universe [the long & winding road, while my guitar gently weeps] incorporate as a major design criterion, that every suitcase must have a W x L entirely matched exactly for all galactically known currencies?

That's the crucial point. Here's what happens if you keep your money loose in a suitcase.

But, but.... I had always thought it was the currency size specifications that ensured the fit. Was I wrong
-
@tbgbe Egads sir! Methinks with this astute observation you have now opened up a currency-themed philosophical argument, easily the rival of the classic "if a tree falls in a forest &
nobody
hears it, is it because some foolish noob went wild & nuked that user?". -

today i'd still not know about Nix & would still be a happy content windozer, cheerfully enjoying all the win10 advertisements on the desktop, in its browser, & in its file manager, & not even realising that a customisable UI is even a thing!
Apparently you don't know about Windows 11, which is the one with the ads. Those of us who didn't "upgrade" to it don't have ads in the file manager. (At least, not yet.) Still not as good as KDE of course.
-
@sgunhouse Dad has win10. It has ads blatantly appearing on its desktop, near the system tray. It's obscene.
-
@guigirl He must have adware then (besides Windows), as this machine doesn't do that. Either that or MS isn't interested in older equipment. (This laptop being a mere 5 years old,), or the manufacturer blocked that particular "update", which I wouldn't expect from HP.

No, it is MS sponsored ads; they're entirely proud of it even... the arseholes.
-
@guigirl As I said, that would imply HP actually blocked that "update" on my system, pretty much unheard of, Hence I remain skeptical.
-
@sgunhouse Perhaps it's the news and interests feature? It looks like "ads", though it can be disabled with just two clicks.

seen the OP yet?)
i checked it immediately b4 my post... lemme see if it has since changed... --> nope.

@guigirl Well, since you seem to enjoy jumping in to interject:
- Can any program be quit with Alt+F4 in Linux? User said they had to disconnect the power, certainly there must be other ways...
- In Kubuntu, can Vivaldi be updated from the package manager? Just wanting to make sure user is running latest version and hard to know without actually being able to access the settings.
- How can the user check the V version from the shell?
- Are there conceivably any differences in RMB context menu in Vivaldi/Linux compared to Windows?
- Are there any combination of settings (Hide UI mode/Fullscreen/Native mode) that could cause something like this, depending on WM/fluff to usability ratio?
- Can any program be quit with Alt+F4 in Linux? User said they had to disconnect the power, certainly there must be other ways...

@pathduck Look, pls don't think me too heartless, but i've just now finished reading all the subsequent posts there, & tbh i felt like screaming. That user seems to have no clue about almost everything, certainly Linux, but also IMO even basic app usage stuff. I'm honestly unable to take seriously the amount of trouble necessary to provide the level of BASIC instruction, for them to get along... every excellent bit of advice you & others provided there, was met just with more BASIC questions. Sometimes, the amount of ignorance is just too large to surmount; users like that are being very unfair on the community by not having taken personal responsibility for their own basic learning, before then coming to a browser forum.
-
@guigirl I ... kind of agree. But we're here to help everyone right?
Was a little surprising it was under the "Vivaldi for Linux" category
Obligatory fortune:

With respect, i don't quite agree. Do we really have to teach windozers how to use basic aspects of windoze, Macsters how to use Mac, Nixers how to nix? I don't see the cut-off of "responsibility" for the forum community as a razor sharp line, clearly there's wriggle-room... but this user needs education in waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more than just Vivaldi. I mean, it's a V forum, not a "how to use a computer" forum.
I'm just a bitch.
-

True. Sometimes I'm really surprised these users have even found Vivaldi, or even understand there's such a thing as a browser. "You know, the thing to use the internet" ...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XczIlID_GPMBut at least it shows they are brave enough to want to try something different, and that's showing something positive I think.
I get frustrated too, and sometimes will just drop a topic if the user is unable to communicate their problem in any meaningful way, has a non-functional understanding of the English language, or responds with rudeness.
But if I see a glimmer of hope and basic mental abilities, I will keep going 🩸
Also - it seems to keep going, which is funny, but I'll leave that to @Aaron, seems the helpful sort. That's what the "Not watching" option is there for
