Can't add Gmail using IMAP?
-
I've been hoping to connect all my email accounts to the Mail feature so I can look at all my emails in one place. However, I can't seem to add GMail to it via IMAP -- whenever I fill in the necessary fields and click "Add Account", I get the following error:
"Could not connect to server. Received following message: Could not open socket: TLS handshake failed. Reason: net::ERR_CONNECTION_RESET"
Neither changing the socket type, nor changing whether or not to do OAuth, would change anything -- the error still shows up when I click Add Account. The GMail I'm trying to connect has the options for both IMAP and POP active, and attempting to connect via POP seemed have no server issues (although as I don't want my emails deleted quite yet, I cancelled the process).
Is this a bug that needs fixing? Or is there something I'm missing, and I can fix this on my own? Any feedback on this would be appreciated.

Hi, I fill my email address, hit "Continue", a popup appears and ask for Password or OAuth, type password > ready.
For password you need to enable "Access through less secure apps".
If you set OAuth a Google page appears and ask to verify Vivaldi.
You don´t have to fill any server settings Vivaldi collect it automatically.Cheers, mib

Okay, so that's how it should work? It doesn't do that for me at all, though. After I fill in the email and click continue, it tells me that Autodiscovery fails, so I have to manually enter the server settings. When I do fill it in and click submit, I get the error I started the thread over.

@aquatica Welcome to the forums.
Gmail restricts access to third party Apps. Go to the Url below and give full access to Vivaldihttps://myaccount.google.com/permissions?continue=https%3A%2F%2Fmyaccount.google.com%2Fsecurity

How do I do that? On that page, Google doesn't give me the option to add any third-party apps, only to remove connections to existing apps.

Hi, as I wrote, if I use OAuth and hit continue after my address is verified a Google window pop´s up to verify the app to get rights for the Gmail account.
Do you maybe block popup windows in Webpages > Default Permissions?Cheers, mib

Having the same issue right now. Nothing happens when i click add account even though I've ticked the OAuth-box. Tried to allow popups, diabled my adblocker etc. but no popup shows.
I'm on MacOS 11.4, and when I check my Google account it says that Vivaldi has full access to my Google calendar and mail (calendar integration works). I'm also prevoiusly logged in at Google in the browser, and usually don't have any issues with Google's OAuth-popups for other sites.

@mib2berlin Did the same thing now, but it didn't work for me
Still get the server timeout error message.

Hi all, I open Vivaldi at another system and the Google popup appears to ask for Vivaldi permission to Gmail.
May I had restart Vivaldi to get it on my main system, It is a bit strange but it is working for me.
I have no idea why it not work for some user.Cheers, mib

Even more strange: When i restart Vivaldi the popups shows up, but giving authorization accomplishes nothing. No mail account is added
Seriously, this is ridiculously hard. Adding a gmail account should be a dead simple task. In most email clients, these kind of accounts are the most easy ones to set up. It tends to work automatically.

I can confirm I'm in the same situation as Mimavox. There are no issues with adding that GMail to the calendar feature, and when I tried to set it up for Pop I got the pop-up for approval just fine (even if I exited out without clicking confirm). This error specifically occurs when I try to set up with IMAP. I have a Windows 10 laptop so I don't think this is a hardware issue, and my version of Vivaldi is up-to-date.

Hi, is it possible a third party firewall or security software is involved?
I guess many Vivaldi user use Gmail M3 mail client, if all gets problems the forum would be flooded with posts.
You can report it to the bug tracker but if the developers cant reproduce it, it is hard to fix it.Cheers, mib

This turned out to be the case. I temporarily disabled my firewall this morning (meant to test this earlier but the internet connection went down for several days) and managed to complete the process with little issue. Thanks for the help!
