I am using opera atm, but it doesn't fulfill my cookie needs.
My question is if vivaldi supports the following:

      1. all cookies are session cookies, removed when the last tab to a site is closed.
      2. I need to specify a list of sites to store permanent data like for mail or forums.
      3. 3rd party cookies are ignored, I expect this is possible.

Please tell me if thats possible for the actual browser on win10.

      Thank you.

Hi, all is possible bit not exactly like you describe:

        1. You have to close Vivaldi to clean session cookies
        2. Is possible in the Chromium setup > chrome://settings
        3. It is

        Cheers, mib

          Nice, sounds good : )

My usage scenario is that my PC is always on, so the browser runs forever, that's why closing it is not the best option for me. Removing the unused cookies when closing the last tab for a site would be good, as this marks the end of communicating with a site.

Btw thinking about mobile devices, the browser is just suspended when using another app, so it might run forever, too. I guess people will rather rarely close the browser manually on these devices. But I have no evidence for that.

Do you think it's possible to integrate this behavior into vivaldi in the future?

Hehe, you can disable Vivaldi stay open if you close the last tab in tab settings like other browser.
I am not aware of a feature request about clear cookies with last tab and you can make a new feature request:

I don't know, if private tabs (in a private window) delete their cookies after closing the tab or after closing the window. perhaps that you could try.
private tabs definitely follow the cookie rules set beforehand, this is not a problem then

I want the browser to stay open, don't want to close all tabs as I use them often.
I will try to post a feature request, thanks for the link.

Ha, that's a new idea, maybe that's the way to go.
So normal window for "static" sites, and private window for random research work.
But I see other troubles with that, need to think about it.

That's over complicated in some way. Keeping things in cache when going for/backward in a site is a good thing. But why keeping things in any sort of cache (memory or disc) when closing a tab? Closing it means byby, nothing to remember.

@bariton While waiting for this to be implemented in Vivaldi, you might want to look at using one of these extensions:

                    https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/cookie-autodelete/fhcgjolkccmbidfldomjliifgaodjagh/

                    https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/site-bleacher/mlcfcepfmnjphcdkfbfgokkjodlkmemo

I use CAD myself for exactly this purpose - cleaning cookies, cache, storage and other crap when the tab is closed, except for sites I whitelist.

                    > BTW, today I cannot connect to mozdev.org, would you know why?
Maybe that big lizard escaped and ate the server admins? :-)

for "random research work" you can also try a guest window. every closed tab is gone forever (even if you didn't wanted to close it 😉 )

Experience: Cookie AutoDelete works very well for me, using it since over one year.
