@spy20imsa Hello and Welcome to the Vivaldi Community
The "Default" profile will always be the one last opened. So when closing Vivaldi always make sure to close the one you want as default for links last. ... Yeah it's not ideal that we can't set a specific profile as standard.
-
Unfortunately adding a
--profile-directory="Default"
parameter in Windows registry for Vivaldi > shell > open > command will be reset after changing default browser. -
@pathduck Yes that's exactly what I'm doing. But I forget it regularly
-
@doctorg Great I'll try and tell you what I think

@doctorg Hi,
I want to try you advice, but i'm not sur how can apply these
Can you explain me how i can add these key ?
Thanks in advance -
@spy20imsa In Regedit
Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Clients\StartMenuInternet
Select in left tree the Vivaldi and go down to shell β open β command -
Sorry I don't understand "go down to shell β open β command"
-
@spy20imsa Pardonnez moi!
My fault.Please open the next subtrees below Vivaldi until you reach shell β Open β command
Then double click in right pane on (Standard) to edit
Go to end end ofvivaldi.exe
inf field
add a space and--profile-directory="Default"
Hit ReturnOh, no! That does not work for Vivaldi.
I try to investigate more.
This works for me:
Open RegeditComputer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Classes
Select in left tree pane your Vivaldi
Select sub tree \shell\open\command
Double click in right pane on(Standard)
to edit
Go to end ofvivaldi.exe
in field
add a space and--profile-directory="Default"
Hit ReturnNow Vivaldi always starts with Default profile.

Just a guess. In your french Windwos Developer means Expand to show more keys in tree?
Sorry, but i do not know the correct one as i have a German Windows. -
@doctorg thank you, that's a perfect explanation.
Yes, it was a question of "Developing".
My chosen profile is open when opening the Vivaldi application.
However, from other apps like outlook, if I click on a link, it will open in the vivaldi window where the focus was previously.
But from what I understand we can not do better today. -
I'm able to do it via changing the registry entry at
Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\VivaldiHTM.XEQUNY3DXY77YXIMDI7CGPLJWA\shell\open\command
I changed the value from
"C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\Vivaldi\Application\vivaldi.exe" --single-argument %1
to
"C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\Vivaldi\Application\vivaldi.exe" --profile-directory="Profile 5" --single-argument %1

@tanchinchun Thank you for this, it works well.

Hi guys.
I have default system vivaldi
Also snapshot vivaldi (installed as standalone), this one I selected to add handler so it can be used as a default browser if I wanted.
Now I started launching my main vivaldi with custom profile path, to ensure that any update only launches on a empty profile, and I notice now even if I set as default browser, it will launch a new instance using default profile.
So I followed the guides here, I checked both registry entries and only the snapshot version of vivaldi is in the registry at those locations, there isnt the default one to edit.
However the default one has a handler as I can select it in the windows UI (it shows both).
I am not bothered so much if vivaldi isnt running at all, but its weird when its already running, I click a link then it launches a new instance on empty profile.
