Solved Microphone usage problem at Duolingo
-
@Pesala For me it's a major issue because the consequence is that i'm switching to Chrome and make my students switching too.
-
@jstumolyon Ok then, use the tool you need. Vivaldi can't afford to have all the technologies Google has, deal with it.

️You will not get Duolingo with microphone as this is a Google paid per use service.
Sad, but i guess Vivaldi does not want to help Google to get richer. SCNR.

@DoctorG Duolingo is not worth using anymore anyway. It has become more of slot machine than a learning app.

@HanlonsRazor Can you recommend one or more good alternatives to Duolingo? Thanks!

I couldn't get duolingo to hear my microphone, so I found the setting in Vivaldi and turned it on. It didn't work, so I went to Google and tried the mike. It doesn't think I'm connected to the Internet. Went back to Vivaldi preferences. It's set to "ask" again. How do I get the microphone to stay on? (Or at least ask me when my app wants to use it)

@HowardJBrazee Hello and Welcome to the Vivaldi Community
Unfortunately, Duolingo will not work in Vivaldi, as they use the Google Voice API for Speech-to-Text.
See:
https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/6411/microphone-usage-problem-at-duolingoThe Speech search on Google using the "mic icon" will not work either, for the same reason. The Speech search on Bing should work though.
To just test if your mic is working in Vivaldi, go to a simple test site like:

That's too bad. I really like Vivaldi and set it as my default browser. But I use Duolingo every day so I will switch to a browser that supports it.

I also noticed that when I turn microphone access on, it always switches back to "ask". So that would have to be fixed too.

@HowardJBrazee Just install Duolingo as an app in Chrome, and use Vivaldi for everything else
