Solved Mail search feature not working at all

I tried playing with search and it is truly weird.
I have a contact who I e-mail every day [email protected] - when I search for "XXX", her e-mails are found, but only the ones received before June 21. It is possible on that day I refetched my e-mails the last time (I try to reset my e-mails regularly to see if it solves issues, it usually just changes them :-)). When double-clicking on her email, all e-mails are corectly shown.
You may be on to something - I have also noticed many times that my search results seem to end sometime around March, which could very well be the last time I did a major install from scratch of Vivaldi on this laptop...

@pauloaguia in VB-80289 "Show from sender" does not show all messages from sender" I found that after setting up an imap account and sending 3 messages to it, only the last 2 showed by choosing "show messages from sender". Deleting the account and setting it up again, the messages were there but selecting to show all messages from sender returned 0 results. I hypothesized that only messages received after setting up the account would be shown. Similar to what you describe but the other way around
-
@WildEnte @pauloaguia @felagund @jon Well, for what it's worth, I tried searching for "amazon" knowing that there were some I could see in the Inbox (or All Messages) and knowing that there should be tons of them going back years. Nothing showed up except that mean ol' "No messages in selected view" note.
Not sure if this puts holes in the theory or not. I think it was about a week ago that I added back my AOL account, so I guess that would be when the old old "Amazon" messages would have been added.
Search uses all that indexing that goes on much of the time, right? Maybe there's some glitch in the indexing itself. Is there some way to examine the index (what is it, a tree? Hash table?)? Dumb idea, no doubt!

Did you try clicking the "all" button after the search finished? That would search in all views, in case it did not find anything in the current view.

Wasn't the change to a different SQL library in Vivaldi around March?

Same result. No Amazons anywhere. But 0 results only took 10ms.!
I still get 40+ results searching on "zigg" or "ziggma". BUT -- very interestingly, I repeated a previous search for "grills" and again was only presented with two results (out of 9) in the middle of the list view column, BUT -- very very interestingly, when I remove the trailing "s" I get nothing.
-
@jon @WildEnte ...so search does not complete the search; i.e. if user searches from: jake [email protected] the result does not include all the possibilities.
Likewise
if I search from: @abc.com
if I search from: abc.com
if I search from: jakeSome of these produce better results than others but never all the possibilities. For example: searching from: jake usually returns the most results.
In this regard I have also noticed that Vivaldi does not allow some functions beyond the current page, i.e. if user is simply selecting items -- either in bulk <SHFT> or selectively using <CTRL>, Vivaldi seems to reset to the beginning or simply loses the selections after a single page.
May be this is related to the incomplete search results.

I think those are two different problems for us to work on.

Sheesh. So TODAY, I repeated this and in my AOL Inbox, NOW I can see the 3 (up from 2) results in my inbox for grills and rendered as expected at the top of the results/mail items column, and when I click the "All" part of the search button, I see all 9 of the emails over all accounts and folders, also rendered correctly (at least I presume that's the way it should be). Dunno why it's different today.

While all my searches were returning no result so far I just found out that putting the search string between double quotation marks and ending with a space works sometime. Eg. "airbnb ".
Unfortunately, this isn't consistent as it doesn't find "amazon ".

@normand17
Hi, do you search in "Received"?
I find all Amazon, Ebay or ESM-Computer mails, for example.
Please add your Vivaldi version.Cheers, mib

@mib2berlin MX Linux just upgraded Vivaldi to 4.1.2369.11 . Nice release, but the search issue still isn't working properly. If I search on "pizza" it seems to get lots of emails where pizza is in the body.
But hey, I think I made a "discovery." Seems that the ONLY things I can successfully search on have their keywords in the body of the email, NOT in the subject, not the sender, etc., etc. Shouldn't this be also indexed or shouldn't the search be customizable to look in these fields????

@durhammer
Hi, I will try to send myself mails with pizza in the body, another with pizza in subject. M3 should find them all if I search for pizza.
Getting hungry straight.Cheers, mib

@mib2berlin mails sent to yourself are severely Bugged (VB-79700) as M3 treats the sent mail and the received mail as the same (showing that the mail is both in a sent and a received imap folder in the header info) and gets totally confused.
Send the email from an account that is not in M3.

@wildente
Yes, I send from the web client.
@Durhammer
The search work as expected, search found both mails.No idea why it not work for you.
Cheers, mib

Doesn't matter if Vivaldi fetches those mails

Had a similar issue just now. Could not find a mail from yesterday when searching for "[email protected]". Other mails that I had received previously by the same sender were shown without an issue.

@mib2berlin Hi, I have Vivaldi 4.1.2369.11 (Stable channel) on MacOs 11.4. Yes the searches were from the "Received" folder.
Thanks. -
@normand17
Hi, I have Vivaldi 4.1.2369.10 snapshot, there was only an Chromium update for stable.
I have stable but I guess it does not make any difference.
I can search for user@yahoo and get all Yahoo mails.
No idea why it work for some but not for other user. ???
Hard to catch those bugs.Cheers, mib

Similar problems here too:
POP3 account with Last Stable 4.1.2369.11 on Ubuntu 20.04. Vivaldi was completely reinstalled 2 days ago.
Search in All Messages for mails from "[email protected]" . There must be 75 emails found.
Search term "nottm" --> 75
Search term "nottm1" --> 75
Search term "nottm12" --> 67
Search term "nottm123" --> 67
Search term "nottm1234" --> 62
Search term "[email protected]" --> 58
Searching for the mail address via contacts --> 42The identical search via IMAP account with snapshot 4.1.2369.10 on Ubuntu 20.04 always returns 75 mails.
And now ? A big mystery.
