You should probably just report it as a bug @janrif .
@jumpsq I report my bugs, won't report someone else's especially when I don't understand the problem.

I kid of hoped the unreliability of search is a known problem. I do not understand the problem either, it seems erratic to me. I reported the one about filters being impossible to edit.

@felagund This may be a silly question but..... let's say you are searching emails from "so&so", do simply enter "so&so" or do you enter from:so&so ?

I mostly double click an e-mail that I find in most recents. However, search now seems to be working for me, I guess the last rebuilding of tha database helped and I will have to wait a bit untill it starts being erratic again.

@janrif You got it exactly right. An existing filter shows some wrong results even after performing 'Rerun filters' and Re-indexing mail search database. After deleting the filter and newly entering it with the same search phrase it produces correct results.
I have tested this only once on one machine.
I don't understand it as well as I would expect the same results in both cases. This is why for me it's a bug and I report it here. -

New bug report filed:
VB-93108
Over time wrong Filter results may appear and cannot be clearedHopefully the work on filters will improve stability of mail search as well...

Also seeing some weirdness in searches. Have a sent email that contains "20220520" on the body. It is tagged with the Work label.
I can't find it through search anywhere even when using other criteria like the mail subject. I can search using the same criteria and find a reply to that email in "All Messages" or the account "Inbox".
Where it gets weirder is when searching on the thread view. As expected the thread view shows both sent email and reply but searching shows nothing. This is when opening the thread view from the label. If I open the thread view from "All Messages" then the search is done globally, probably because searches aren't thread aware and are done on the container "All messages". That would explain the earlier search showing nothing since the reply isn't tagged.
On another instance of vivaldi the search works fine...
Rebuilding the search database does nothing as far as I'm aware. There is no visual feedback from the operation besides the initial confirmation dialoque.

@jon said in Mail search feature not working at all:
I think those are two different problems for us to work on.
@jon Excuse me for piggy backing on this thread w a different subject but I don't know how to get someone to pay attention to a function which I've been requesting for a year+; maybe multiple years. I honestly don't remember but it's been a looooong time.
In Mail3, there is an option to label emails. I use this daily. The problem is that the user is only permitted a single entry on the label drop down menu. If I want to use multiple labels, I have to go thru the process again & again & again. I would like the option to select multiple labels in the drop down menu via checkboxes.
Thank you for your time & consideration.

@janrif your request about labels is rather unrelated to the issue discussed in this thread. The feature request for better label management, including mass labeling, is here https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/60057/label-management (and you have already voted for it)
