(History of) Vivaldi Feature Requests

zooming is not per tab but per site (you can see it when zooming tile if sites are not the same). I can see benefits of both and one just can't say what's better. But changing this is not bringing us any advantages ATM I think. (only that we could get another setting… but I think that right now there are more important task to do)
Independent zoom for each tab (tabs of the same website or domain) was the default behavior in Opera 12. BTW there is settings: browser.zoom.siteSpecific In Firefox.

I would like to suggest something that I don't see in any other browser and Vivaldi could offer this, I would really enjoy it and I believe many will also.
I would like to suggest you to introduce "Private Tabs". We already have private browsing in other browsers, and it opens a new window where all our tabs are private. This is fine for me, however, I would really like to see the ability to open private tabs so that I don't need to have two windows opened. I could have my private tabs alongside my normal tabs for a more clean organization of my browsing.
Of course, the old way of having a private window should also be included. -
Frankly it's a pretty good looking browser, fast (Though chrome load webpages faster and firefox sometimes) But i do have few features to suggest though Vivaldi is relatively new and still in technical stage. Beware, i mean no disrespect to the developers. Just a heavy firefox nightly plugin user here.
-Tab support: As a mainly firefox user with a few tab plugins, Vivaldi which claims to be aiming for power users, the tab section/feature is severely lacking. The lack of close tab to the right or left (Firefox plugin added this) is necessary for heavy, non close tab users like me. Other features are nice but this is cracking at me.
-In built session manager
-High DPI Interfaces, it's semi supporting this and chrome doesn't have a official fix but it's short term fix is more than good enough
-(Not sure) Pen support, Spartan browser will have pen and weird enough, Vivaldi looks a like metro spartan/IE browser. One awesome thing about this browser is wide screen space, which is ideal for pen
-Different rendering: Avant has this though i don't think necessary, it would be a nice feature to add Firefox and IE/Spartan Rendering though Microsoft has still not fully stated open source for Spartan yet.
-Different Logo, it's not bad logo but hardly a focusing one. As most browsers have a sphere, we have gotten use to this. I always forget where the window is due to it's outputting logo. (No offense to the designer)
So far it's a good browser, it's great for clean, fast taskers but not really for power users TBH. Again, i think Vivaldi is meant to be a mix of firefox and chrome. So keep it up! But really add the tab option, it bothers me

Vivaldi Feature Request: Duplicate Tab Shortcut
There is a simple feature ALL browsers lack nowadays: A shortcut for duplicating the current tab. Usually you can middle-click on the "reload button" for the page - but the second you use a laptop without this virtual middle-click, you're lost.
Since Vivaldi has the power-user in mind - including useful keyboard shortcuts - please add this simple shortcut, so that one can efficiently duplicate the current tab!
-
Two main features are required for me to actually close the ole Opera 12 (still runnin both)
- Tab extender menu - I like lots of tabs but I also like to be able to read the tab titles still!
- Email support

Can Vivaldi show preview of markdown files?
If not, that is what I'd like to have. I know that notes support markdown, but couldn't find any notion about previewing local markdown files in the browser windows like
Chrome Markdown Preview does. -
Would be nice to have Downloads provide information on ETA (time) and speed (bytes/sec) for the download.
Also after the download, a ding or notification would be nice, which should have an option to disable.
Thx,
Love the browser so far.
I'm using OSX Mountain Lion.

I like Firefox download notification implementation. You can super easily open downloaded file/folder through drop down menu. Great feature!

I've tabs at the right side and at the beginning of using Vivaldi it was very irritating, that the pagename was above the tab. In good old O12 it's under the tab. Would be nice, if we could change this behavior
(P.S. it's still irritating ) -

(P.S. it's still irritating )I complained of this from early on. Unfortunately my habit has begun to change and now, if it changes to the O12 way, I will have to adjust again. BUT - happy to do it.

Please provide an option to disable automatically autocompleting entries in the URL bar. It's really annoying when I'm typing, eg, ebay.com and press return and it takes me to ebay.com/something-something-something that I visited before. Fine to list me autocomplete possibilities but I'd like a config option to mean I have to actively select one before it's used - with the (hoped for) disable-autocomplete option enabled then the default should be to take me to exactly what I typed.
Otherwise I'm loving Vivaldi (though hoping that more privacy options become available soon (history clear, never remember passwords, etc)), and this annoying URL autocomplete is the only real gripe - I created this account purely to voice this request.
Thanks

A URL bar in speed dial would be awesome. That way it can be disabled without much inconvenience.

I would like to suggest a mechanism to open a link in a new tab in a specified destination window.
This behaviour could take the form of offering the user a selection of target windows from which to choose. This would be advantageous if you're researching related topics. For example working on javascript and you want to collect all the pages relating to jquery in one window and regular javascript in another.
An alternative behaviour would be that all links on one domain open in a window for that domain.
-
Another feature which I would like to suggest would be site preferences and different sorts of compatibility modes.
I work with an old version of Bugzilla and that only renders properly in IE in compatibility mode. This is a very selfish request I know but I'm sure there must be other sites out there which would benefit also.
-
Site preferences are sure to come. I imagine so is "open in…" to select another browser to open an incompatible site in.
Compatibility mode? This would be EXTREMELY complex to code I think, so I'm rather less certain about that.
-
Yet another feature that I like to suggest is opera like labels in the email application. Being able to group emails into sets I find very useful.
And in a related request which I'm not sure is even practical, the Email client should provide native Exchange Server connectivity. I haven't found anything on the desktop that can function and provide the same access as Outlook. Please note I'm not talking about web-mail or imap, smtp or other such tools.
-
There are two views which might be taken with regard to the compatibility modes. The first that I got from Opera is that Opera is able to mask or identify as IE or Firefox.
The second view which is more complex but a lot of the differences and features of the various main stream browser are all well documented. Your right though it would be a lot of work! But the ability to select an advanced rendering option might suit a power user.
I think this would be a very specialist feature.

This is probably a huge display of ignorance but I can only go with what I see.
Often when I visit pages from a domain, the structure and css for each page is the same but it seems to me that each page is loaded and rendered independently, javascript must be initialised to the same start values all over again. So I'm wondering why can't all that work be cached for pages where the underlying code is the same but have different content?
This is my thought.
Thank you.
