(History of) Vivaldi Feature Requests

No, it's not. Ctrl-Click open in a new tab in background…
Ah, sorry, that's my reflex response when someone asks how to open a new tab in the background. I must have skimmed your question or misunderstood or something.

I can add search engines manually to Vivaldi, but how about using opensearch.xml for this? Especially the keyword suggestions extension seems handy. You can then get query keyword suggestions as you type in your browser.
Here's a test of a personal search engine working through browser URL field (Firefox)

#10 Breadcrumb Address Bar is better than vanilla Address Bar. Breadcrumb Address Bar with drop down menus is better than vanilla breadcrumb Address Bar - especially when browsing repos.
Location Bar Enhancer is a good example of this. I'd also want a button that goes to the root domain.

️ a feature that loads the next page in a forum/google/whatever. For example: when I would search for "vivaldi" then scrolled down, it would load the second results page while being in the same page. Also (kinda off topic) Qunho made an extension to make the space bar in Vivaldi to behave like the one in Opera 12.

Open new tab next to active would be great.
That would seem more logical to me. If a new tab is opened from right-click 'open in new tab', it should open next to the active tab. However, if I simply open a new tab, I like to see that new tab at the end of the tab line. Right now I use an add-on, 'SimpleTabOrder', for Chrome, to achieve the desired effect but Vivaldi still tries to open the tab at the end, momentarily, which is only slightly annoying.

#4 Put Trash and 'Open a new tab' button close to each other. They should be together because they are primary tools for tab manipulation (open and restore). Now, if there were an option to revert tab order, so that newly opened tab is on top then +, Trash and New Tab are always on fixed positions.
Tab space is important so I'd like to see the trash can as a movable or optional button. For me it would be better placed in the status bar or in the side panel. But….I do like the 'Open new tab' button at the end of the tab line, so again, maybe it would be better as a movable or optional button?

#8 Add X to clear field. Add search in all tabs checkbox too (not in picture), which would keep text in search box when I change tab.
Thank you! I knew there was something fussy about the search box but couldn't put my finger on it. If I open a new tab and type a search term in the search box it stays put while I'm in that tab, but, if I open another new tab or choose a different open tab, the search term goes away. I would like my search term to stay there until I decide to change it.
BTW…I like this Feature Request topic.....a lot of really good, constructive, thoughtful ideas in here

I got the new snapshot and while it is nice to have the buttons, I don't use most of them. Is it possible to remove add-on buttons?
-
Ha!! New snapshot and now I've got extension buttons and my search term stays put :woohoo:
Edit: well, rats….now the search box, on my Windows 7/64 machine won't let me replace search contents...so..in order to change the search terms I must open a new tab. HELP!

@Dominik.AT:
PLEASE ADD H.264 SUPPORT for Youtube and other Viedo Platforms.
+1
I always use this extension in Chromium browsers that don't yet have H.264 capability. It doesn't help at all, but it forces Youtube to render videos with Flash instead of html5. Maybe not ideal, but at least it functions.

Phew. I thought it was only me, been trying to work out I was doing wrong

Very minor request, but I feel it'd be useful… at least for me.
Is there any chance to have the page title added to the window title bar when Use Native Window is selected? It gives one the opportunity to see the page title at a glance, particularly as it has a lot more space than a tab.

encrypted m3 & mails.
i dont mean pgp or similar, i mean that one cannot access (downloaded) mails without the master password in vivaldi. -
@Sajadi:
And in general more choice over the browser elements aka UI font.
There's an css customization for that
:
/* Replace 'Arial' with the name of the font you want to use. */ /* If you want to use a non-standard font, you may need to specify a path to the .ttf file. */ /* If on Windows: */ .win { font-family: Arial !important; } /* If on Linux: */ .linux { font-family: Arial !important; } /* If on Mac: */ .mac { font-family: Arial !important; }

I would like to make a suggestion for the mail application.
This would be that when you reply to a message, you're able to define a default behaviour:
The editor places your reply at the tail of the message with your signature at the bottom.
> ------------ > ------------ > ------------ .... ....
The editor created an edit block at the head of the email with your signature preceding the earlier message.
.... .... > ------------ > ------------ > ------------
The editor wraps the replied email with the start of your message at the top and and signature at the bottom.
.... .... > ------------ > ------------ > ------------ - ..
The editor inserts reply blocks into the email text below the most recently written paragraphs.
.. > > ------------ > ------------ ... > > ------------ ....... - ..
Also there should be an option to say that any line matching the pattern /^[>\s]*$/ is re-written as an empty line.
To make something that would look like:
.... .... > > ------------ > > ------------ > > ------------ ....
To become:
.... .... > > ------------ > > ------------ > ------------ ....

I would want a feature for the Mail that adds snoozing and pinning of mails like Inbox by Gmail.
-
Making files that are downloaded through "Open" option temporary, that is, downloaded into some temporary folder that is either automatically cleaned on exit (like Opera 12) or at least placed in Windows temp so it can easily be deleted with the rest of the junk. Nobody needs 20 web installers clogging the Downloads folder.

I really miss the 'Close tabs to the right' feature.
I miss that too. Thats the best thing that was introduced with Opera 15+.
-
1- I miss History panel (sidebar)
2- An ability to manage panels (remove unused, change order)
3- Also I'd like to have Shortcut for "Appearance -> Toogle UI" -> I like this option! (done)
4- What about default background of Speed Dial: each time we have a browser update Speed Dial background is changed if it is set to default.
5- Bookmarks panel: single click instead of double click to expand folder/open page
6- RSS and Twitter panels
7- Sync
8- Reading mode (possibly as a Page action)
9- Presentation mode
10- Ability to remove Main buttons (Home, Rewind etc.) or add my own -
Why am I seeing more people writing about mail when it still isn't officially available?!?
Very frustrating, since it's actually the main reason I got interested in Vivaldi and downloaded it as soon as it was made public!
Grrr…

As an addition to the my previous request, I like to ask for the ability to insert a line break into reply-to text in an email:
You start with:
> --------------- > --------------- > ---------------
Choosing a location to insert the line break:
> --------------- > ---------*----- > ---------------
The new structure:
> --------------- > --------- > *-------------- > ------
You write your response.
> --------------- > --------- .............. > *-------------- > ------

If this has been mentioned before or already exists in a slightly different form then I apologise for re-inventing the wheel.
This is about attaching free form user generated metadata to a bookmarked page. This would take three forms.
The first a text panel which can be docked to one of the sides of the browser pane or as a floating window. This would act as a global text area for the whole page. This would also offer the ability to create links into the target page. Either linking to a real page element or to an element from the second form below.
The second to allow sort of in-line editing of the page. The user would be able to attach captions to images or other page elements like a div or paragraph. The captions would also support types of visual boarder to highlight the elements (circles or boxes or something which looks free-form but is actually generated by some well designed script). These may also be multiple elements (possibly unrelated in the dom), being lassoed and grouped together.
In this case the page would be marked up in the browser with new browser created anchors located based on the page structure and landmark values. Hence this would not work very well on highly dynamic pages.
In this second form the captions would be able to be viewed in a narrative form in a text panel like the first example.Form three, a user defined table of contents creating their own anchors with titles to navigate to key content in large pages.
These texts would be able to be saved as a text file of choice. When the meta-data is orphaned with the deletion of a bookmark the data should be moved to an orphaned folder which the user would then be able to clear or review. Any orphaned links whose bookmarks are re-established would be restored to the live set.
This would also work well with the concept of an integrated Instant Messenger.
