(History of) Vivaldi Feature Requests
-
Hi,
Like the tech preview so far. Looks promising. I have a feature request though. Basically I like the speed dials especially that you can create groups. However, when I research something, I usually have a bunch of links that I place on my desktop first. Later I will only bookmark some that I actually need and delete the rest. Right now the desktop is the only place where I can individually place some links and visually group (cluster) them. As I am visually oriented I very much prefer this to a list in some directory. It makes researching something much more productive for me. I would therefore request some sort of a bookmark pin wall where you can place some links individually. Like switching to the pin wall and drag and drop the url or the tab to place a bookmark. And be able to move them around freely. Maybe later have a context menu with entries like move link to bookmark-group and delete link.
Other than that the only features missing for me have already been mentioned. Mainly drag a tab outside the window and open it up in a new window. Also, have more space for moving the browser window. These are common features in e.g. firefox or chrome.
Keep up the good work!
p.s. Do you have some sort of release date for a fist actual version (not a tech preview)?

Maybe I'm too old, but I adore solid win95-like design and hate "clean and modern interface". Is it possible to built-in "classic windows theme" without knowledge of CSS/JS from user side?

I propose to features.

I would like to see an option to choose wether we want the browser to save our opened tabs at startup or to just launch the home page or the speed dial. I personally don't like the fact that every time I open Vivaldi it restores all closed pages I left. This is especially bad if you are using a computer that more than one person will use.

Not yet. Patience…

This option is certain to be offered.

This request has been mentioned and I wish to add my voice to the group.
A 'disable password request' toggle is a MUST.
My on-line banking agreement forbids the use of third party password aggregators or the storying of my password digitally. So it becomes a real pain to constantly click 'no, don't store my password'.
Other browsers allow password save requests to be toggled off.

I really start to excessively use the tab stacking mechanics! However, what slows down my work considerably is that I have to manually move any new tab to a stack.
It would be really great if we could add identifiers/names to a stack and have the right-click option to open a new tab within a specific stack.Or maybe, as a first step, to open a new tab within the stack to which the current tab belongs.

+1 for SergeA's request to enable a dark background for images.
I still use Opera 12 because of the ability to edit image.css in the installed files and change the background to a dark color. I took a look at common.css, but (perhaps because I'm not a web developer) can't figure out if there's an equivalent change I can make in that file.

@d90pwn:
request quick html code editor in source code like Opera12 . 'inspect element' uncomfortably
sometimes need to edit a lot of strings in code and apply, to do so in the current editor, you must do a lot of action than opera12 editor..
+1
Yes, the simple HTML source viewer/editor in Opera 12.x and earlier (accessed via Ctrl+U) was/is very nice. It allows one to quickly browse/search the code, make any wanted tweaks, and Apply the changes to see/save the result. In Vivaldi, Ctrl+U is supposed to open a similar HTML source viewer, but the shortcut doesn't seem to be working (so have to use context menu instead). But it is a viewer only, not an editor, so wanted edits can't be applied to the viewed page.
I also use Dragonfly in Opera 12.x occasionally, but most of its power is way over my head as a non-programmer. The Developer Tools available in Vivaldi look similarly powerful (and very customizable via the settings), but again, mostly over my head.

i'd like to see that "master password" thing on vivaldi.
it's a crucial feature for users like me who shoud share his/her computer with another user. that's why i'm using firefox as my main browser right now.
keep up the good work guys. love the new browser, as an old opera presto user. (:

@jayell:
ability to turn off 'underlining' of links, they are not needed and are a distraction if you have a page with many links displayed
Hmmm. I don't recall seeing links underlined on any site I have visited with 32-bit Vivaldi browser (on 32-bit Win7).

1. Bookmarks drop down menu on the Address Bar with full d&d support
2. Option to remove V-menu button from the left corner
3. Option to remove tabs close button [x]

Hi;
Can you please add a feature somewhere (vivaldi:config?) to block "onBeforeUnload" prompts 100% of the time? Like, to completely disable it at a browser level and override with page closure?Although at its heart it's a useful feature, it's at best an impediment (YES, I want to close the page, stop asking me) and at worst a tool for spammers ("Click "YES" to WIN $10000!") and I hate it with every fibre of my being.
This seems like the sort of feature a browser for power-users would have. You guys are also pretty much my only hope.
Any chance of it? -
Opera-like Tab Stacking (double click on tab to Expand/Collapse Tab Stack)

Well spoken.
I don't encounter these often enough that it would ever have occurred to me to make such a request. But they are annoying and I support both the sentiment and the request.

Like you don't already have enough in this Feature Request topic.
Please make the "Clone Tab" function retain the browsing history. I use this to follow threads or links I didn't click. You know, clone, hit back button, and click the link you missed.
SteveEDIT: Oh and option in settings to open new tap next to active

Hi all,
The options for customizing keyboard shortcuts are excellent already. I'd be thrilled by a little addon to this feature to assign custom shortcuts to specific URLs (e.g., reassign CTRL+1 from its current tab toggle to instantly load vivaldi.net in the currently active tab). This could be done by adding a button "URL shortcut" to the Navigation menu.
Opera had this feature tied to the speed dial (i.e., CTRL+1 would take you to the first entry in the speed dial) which would be a nice option, too. In any case: Shortcuts that instantly bring on a specific page would be awesome!

I like the option to remove the address bar for more screen, but:
Adressbar stuff:
- Add a hotkey to toggle address bar (as seen on status bar), or show on tab hover
- Rightclick on tab -> copy URL, PLEASEEE!!!!
Tab stuff:
- Add a option to remove tab thumbnails when hovering
- Add a option to remove the functionality to drag the tab bar (that one that shows thumbnails) (just disable the behavior)
- Open tab next to active, pleeease!!!
- Tabs on a group that open link, should autogroup the new tab
Tab stacking:
- Set handles to resize each "panel" (website), if is bigger than screen overflow in canvas with a scrollbar (like TweetDeck)
- Tab grid is WEIRD may i suggest using flexbox (to wrap container when a odd number of tabs), or some weird grid layout (like js-masonry) should rearrange (drag & drop) which tab goes where
Settings
- We want to add multiple hotkeys TOO, (where is the file at least?!?)
THANKS FOR THIS AMAZING BROWSER!!!

When crash, and reopen, add a menu to "reopen all tabs", or start again, PLEASEEE!
(should be great if you show me a list of opened tabs and letme choose what tab to close before vivaldi runs and crashes again)
