(History of) Vivaldi Feature Requests
-
As a long time user of Opera, I was kinda lost since Opera 12.x and now I am really excited about Vivaldi. I downloaded the TP out of curiosity and now I'm already using it as default browser. It really is an amazing work and I'm very impressed, congratulations!
About the requests, I have a few:
-Upgrade for stacked tabs:
Usually when I come across interesting pages, I like to save it to read later (very later) and eventually, I end up with several pages (sometimes up to twenty) saved. With Opera up to 12.x, I used to put all the pages inside a single group and that function was the one I missed the most on modern browsers. As I see, I can group tabs again, and it's very good, but doesn't work quite well when you have a lot of pages stacked.
I have two suggestions to make it better: first, It would be good if you could double click the group, and them all the pages could be shown in a list (hence "stacked"), with thumbnails on the side when you hover them. As it is now, I have to hover the group, wait for the thumbnails to appear and so them choose the page that I want, or use the shortcut ctrl+tab, which lead us to the second suggestion: an option to skip all the stacked pages, except the top one, like it used to be in Opera 12.x. If you have that many pages like me in a single group, you might want to move directly over them when you are browsing other pages, mainly because you stacked all those pages to save them for later (in my case), and that would save quite a time.-Touchscreen support:
I'm pretty sure it's being developed, but just to be sure, I noticed Vivaldi has no support for touchscreen yet. I can scroll and click, but that's all. It would be nice to set up multi-touch gestures, like sliding two fingers to back/foward page, three fingers to open/close tabs, and so on. It's a feature that lacks on almost every browser, though Chrome have a nice back/foward page through touch. Touchscreen interface is getting a wider range every day, and many computer and laptops nowadays already have it, so it's a good idea to have a support for those users and not only that, but stand out over the others browsers.-About the design:
Though Vivaldi is already very beautiful but, besides the support for themes, I would be glad if the border (behind the tabs) could follow up the desktop theme (it may be a option among the themes). As I use aero glass on Windows 8, other windows stand out more just because the glass effect, while Vivaldi has almost a couple solid color in general. I'm aware it's following the trend from Metro/blocky style (hooray De Stijl and Piet Mondrian =D), and I personally think it's pretty beautiful, it doesn't stand out so much and sometimes it's hard to see the extension of the inactive tabs dependending on the monitor color setup.I hope you guys appreciate my requests (even if they are more like suggestions) as much as I'm appreciating the browser and I'm really sorry for the long post, but it's been a long time since I'm excited about a software. Congrats from Brazil o/

I have few suggestions. Not sure if someone mentioned any of them.
1. An option for master password protect of the password manager.
2. Dump the WebRTC, or at least make an option to turn it off (if you implement it). I want a browser, not a messaging/video client.
3. Not sure if it's possible in chromium/blink, but it would be nice if we had the option to move the extension icons on the status bar.

I would like to see favicons in the address bar dropdown (for history and bookmarks) and tabs on left/right side
-
Would like to see (from a long time O12 user perspective):
- Progress bar pop-up at bottom (I'm not getting enough feedback that my click or back/forward registered and is loading, so I hit it again, oops didn't need to went a page too far, etc.)
- Edit site preferences, especially user CSS/script. Great for blocking ridiculously over-sized and factually inaccurate "your browser appears to be out-of-date" messages, among other things.
- I like being able to view page source, edit it, and apply changes without having to open up the developer tools. It is much faster and easier. Maybe that's just me, but I definitely use it a lot in O12.
And I hope somebody can implement the Snap Links extension, sooo unbelievably useful:
https://addons.opera.com/en/extensions/details/snap-links/
The author of that seems inactive, and it doesn't work on New Opera. It really is one of the biggest reasons I'm still using O12. That, the super fluid mouse gestures, and the above mentioned features.Thank you all for your hard work!
-
I miss mouse gestures working on the tab (I mean tab label in the tab bar) and on special pages like settings, plugins, etc.
I used to reload some not current page by performing mouse up, mouse down gesture on its tab, then when I finished reading the current page I went to the refreshed page. Or I closed tabs by gesture down, gesture right. Or I sometime copied some tab by mouse down, mouse up if I needed to open similar url with only few parameters patched manually. -
I miss the most TAB settings and "startup" settings
- when closing open: next tab, last tab opened etc.
- open new tab next to active
- after start open: homepage, speeddial, last opened tabs
- enable thumbnails in tabs
and others features mentioned above
One more thing… Can you guys do something with white colour in browser?? It's killing my eyes, especially in night it is more effective.
Especially in:
- inactive tab X TABbar background (white X soft grey);
- opened bookmarks, notes,.. pannel (if you open bookmarks on e.g. google.com, "effect" is more powerful; edge between Bookmark pannel and site is very slim..);
- adress field;
- speedidial-> selceted Bookmarks/History (white X grey lines..)
Thanks! (I hope somebody from dev is reading this topic)

first of all, 1:1 copy of latest opera 12. im sure 95% of all wishes would be fulfilled then already.
then building up extra options from there! -
+1

The thing I miss most after the text selection inside links is the smooth scrolling. My eyes have started bleeding until I scrolled through all pages of this theme to the end.

Requests (in no particular order):
Allow the side tabs to be collapsed by using the same mechanism as the left side bar and also allow it to be used in full screen
More customizable speed dial interfaceWhen fullscreening video allow for side tabs to go away until regular size is resumed
Option for "expose" (like the mac) type tab selection. It is one of the best ways to deal with multiple tabs just as it is for windows. Ability to turn on and off.
Allow tabs to be dragged out to open a new Vivaldi window.
"Reopen closed tab" feature
Extension support is important to any modern browser. There are some things that just simply require extensions.
Include more advanced note taking features, such as page markup, printing as a PDF, and the ability to connect it to things like One note.
Show window previews in a location where they will not obstruct the other tabs, when they drop down with tabs on the side they block the tabs below.
Option to disable the window preview for tabs on the sides and/or preview on mouse hover when preview are already showing (like when tabs are on the sides)
Search all tabs function
Quick dictionary look up, like in the kindle cloud reader may be useful in some situations
Automatically scale down side tabs to just icons or at least smaller bars when window is a small / half screen width.

Oh and by the way, thanks for such a great browser! This is my new favorite way to interface with the web, and its only in a preview! Adding a few more features could make it even better. Thanks!

O12 had a feature of copying tabs. You also have clone tab option. Also O12 and you have an ability to open link in new tab. But this action always frustrates me when the link is a javascript action. I ended up in having an extra empty page with javascript:void(0); in the address. I wanted Opera combined this two actions and for javascript links and first copied current page and then executed the script on the cloned tab. This way the feature would work on javasript links too. I could not remember for sure, but it seems O12 copied the whole tab state, not just opened the same url, at least I'd also liked it worked this way in Vivaldi.
Opera buried the best browser, so maybe you could make the open in new tab action (middle click) working on all links regardless it is usual url or script.

In reply to "right click for image info" feature:
I'd like this as well. I'll create a feature request in our BTS and mention it at our Friday meeting. -
Merge URL Bar and quicksearch box - and THEN move it up to the same bar as tabs. Pinned tabs on the left of the URL bar, non-pinned, wider tabs on the right. Most of the time the space to the right of tabs is blank/empty. The internet is vertically-focused so increasing vertical distance by compressing the overhead menu bars.
Similarly - merge the stop and reload buttons so they switch (stop when a page is loading, reload when it's not).
and keyword search with urls that have %s in them as well as keyword shortcuts for bookmarks.
please keep many shortcuts the same, like cmd+L to access url bar. (would make switching from chrome and firefox easier).

I'd like to see the option for the Developer Tool to be docked to the viewport (both in the lower half, and on a side). Also, the device view that can be found in the new Opera's developer tool is very useful.

1. When in a Speed Dial folder, we should be able to go to the upper folder by pressing the "escape" key. trying to press the "Up" button takes time and since it's a small button, it gets kinda hard.
2. Adding a new speed dial shows a section at the bottom of the page :
2.1. the close button of the section should be bigger.
2.2. we should be able to close it by pressing the "escape" key.
2.3. its design should be changed to something that gets your attention and is in the middle of the page. something like the approach used in ChrOpera (it shows a new Dialog fade in the page)3. the overall design of the buttons size should be refurbished since some of the buttons are really small and on High Definition displays they become even smaller.
4. We should be able to import Google Contacts (or other mail systems) by providing a UserName/Password for our account. but since the email client is in the works, you could make it that whenever it connects to the server, it'd ask for the contacts.
5. just pointing out again : the color transitions and some animations are not smooth… for example open a new tab and pay attention to its color changing. the color changes in some steps and the steps are not enough for the user to perceive them smooth (it's laggy)... this happens in some other transitional effects too.
6. When dragging a tab, if the mouse cursor moves out of the address bar (while still holding the mouse left button) the tab stops moving and it gets stuck wherever it was when the mouse cursor was inside the address bar. moving the tabs should be as smooth and easy as it was with Opera 12.x
Thanks !

Night mode in the browser
I saw the browser night mode feature in an android based browser (CM browser), it automatically detects (perhaps based on time) the night time and asks you to switch to night mode in which the colors are transformed to night colors and appear easy on eyes. Something like

Please add bookmarks in horizontal menu like in opera 12, thanks!

Browser:
1. Optimize system memory usage. This browser takes up too much memory
2. Optimize overall browser. This browser takes too long to load/launch (min 15 sec, max 1 minute), especially the speed dial
3. Optimize browser cache. Every time I close and open this browser, all the tabs that I left off from before are still there. This is a huge privacy issue.
4. Add theme manager feature (instead of add-ons, and you said you don't want add-ons… well, atleast give the users the ability to change how the browser looks) that lets you connect to other Vivaldi users, create themes, or download themes created by others. (This includes changes to icons, tabs, looks, aesthetics, colors, backgrounds and whatnot)Download Section:
1. Add "File Grabber" feature, grabbing links from files/videos and downloading them as you desire
2. Add "Download video format as..." that allows you to download videos in a specified format (.avi, .wmv, .mp4, etc.)
3. Add "Download file by segment" option that increases the file downloading speed by separating the file into different parts and downloading all of them at the same time, and combining all of the parts after the file downloads.
4. Add torrent integration. (Using magnet torrent links does not work in this browser) -
Feature request:
Auto-group tabs of the same domain URL. Something like yandex.Next browser does.. but better (has some issues)(You can do it better!!)- So when I focus on some "grouped tab" should expand it showing me all "grouped tabs"
- When I click on X on a "group" should close the "front" (maybe last) tab of that group not the WHOLE group
- Screenshots (tooltips) on hover are nice, but when I "wheel click" on the screenshot, should close that tab
PS: I work with a lot of tabs at the same time (20+)
