(History of) Vivaldi Feature Requests

The new feature in Opera developer that incorporates ad block and shows how much time is saved by removing ads.

I would really like to see an option to enable smoothing & anti-aliasing on fonts. I use firefox currently, and it uses smoothing & anti-aliasing, chrome does and it makes fonts look very thin and not as dark (harder to read in my opinion).
You can disable the anti-aliasing with an extension but it would be nice to have it built in.

First of all, thank you for having a "Reply Topic" function.
I am extremely happy to see extensions that allow me to increase and decease font size with on-screen buttons. I am happy to see that these extensions produce a wider range than in Chrome, since I am old and need to read large letters.
I am very happy that there is a Minimum Font Size function in the browser. However, because some web pages do not accommodate larger and readable fonts, I would like to see an on-screen button that temporarily disables and re-enables this function, returning the page to a no-minimum-font-size state. A toggle, if you will.
I would like to see a "open link tab in background" option. I can make this happen in the user.js file in Firefox. This allows me to open a bunch of webmail items and read them after looking through my mail.
Great browser.

An easy way to change the encoding of current page like opera.

To Vivaldi Dev Team: keep this up and you will be the #1 browser.
Best feature is NATIVE VERTICAL tabs.
If you can, copy more features from this great Firefox addon:
Tab UtilitiesIt has a great feature set but the code is poorly written and not maintained.
There is a reason Chrome and Opera would not do vertical tabs. They are cowards who refuse to accommodate users who want to keep dozens of tabs open and invite crashes and performance/resource issues. So what! We understand the downside of many open tabs. Today's browser is more than a lookup tool. It is a professional tool for many and does not need to be dumbed down.
When you have a lot of tabs open the need to search across ALL open tabs becomes obvious. Here is a great addon in Firefox that does that beautifully and the code is superbly written and maintained:
FindBar TweakSome people like Tree Style Tab
I think it creates too many hierrachical levels not logically related and makes a mess. However just ONE LEVEL grouping is a good idea with an expand/collapse or accordion (one group expanded at a time) functionality. A great feature is the ability to give the tab header of the group a custom name. It is easy to do a right-click-rename functionality to any tab. But renaming the header tab of the group is very useful. Closing the header tab (toggler/expander tab) should close the entire group with all its child tabs, and dispose of the custom name. The VERTICAL TABS feature is a real winner for Vivaldi. Please make it more robust and ride that winning pony as far as you can.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Hi,
I was told that this is the appropriate place to put down my thoughts regarding features for the Vivaldi mail client that is coming to the browser.
Firstly, thank you for this. I think those of us that like to use a local email client as opposed to a web based solution (gmail etc) really appreciate another company producing something new. There seems to be a huge lack of innovation on this front.
I am a big fan of Opera Mail and still use it as the way it deals with emails, especially the lack of folders preferring to use better search functions instead, is certainly the way I like to work.
What I would like to see if more of a revolution on the contacts side of software. I'd like to see this operate much more like Facebook/What's App etc preferably with email and IM integration. Even better would be the ability to link to Facebook IM and What's App so that all of that functionality could be integrated into one place. Being able to see all my messages appear in one inbox would be amazing. It would also be great to be able to 'download' your facebook contacts, linking them to existing email contacts in the same way that a mobile does.
Also, with the email, I would like to see it include some more 'business' orientated functions that were lacking in Opera Mail. For example, being able to set an 'I am away' message to operate for a period of time. Also, better manipulation of the signature. Features here could include, repeating the sig only once per thread instead of being copied multiple times, putting the whole message (inc sig) above the quoted reply and possibly some more fun features like a change aspect to your signature. A long time ago I used a programme that added random quotes to my signature. I would like to be able to do that again with the software.
I hope those suggestions prove useful.
Cheers

I'm also a big fan of TreeStyleTab which was already discussed in another thread. With TreeStyleTab all new tabs are openend as subtabs of the current tab if they have been createy by a click on a link.Yes! That's last one feature which keeping me stuck to FF.
BTW Mozilla going to drop support for their addonsโฆ. -
Ability to adjust chrome font size. Not just page content fontsize, but fontsize for Vivaldi'a chrome sections. It is hard to read small print.

When I open tabs, I want to each tab to be open right after current tab, not somewhere far away. I usually opens many tabs and read them, but they are opening too far from current tab and getting even farther when I open many links from the same page, can you have settings to have each tab to be open right after current tab.

I use my mosue to navigate between open tab, but for some reason this feature not in mouse list, please add: Next Tab, Previous tab gestures for mouse.

Please, would love you provide a built-in option to >do not download images, only exception list<. Chrome/Chromium has it already built-in, and i am using this for surfing via tethering hotspot mobile for >> notebook. Very, very useful to lower the bandwidth usage.
We all know, mobile surfing is growing, this includes more hotspots for notebooks :- )
Example from Chromium: (Settings > Advanced > Content Settings > Images:

Please add options to display and open the parent folders of results from searching bookmarks.
This is very useful for being able to find the same bookmark later. It is also great for finding bookmarks in many places which should be consolidated into their own (new) folder.
This functionality is currently available in Firefox with the following add-ons:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/go-parent-folder/
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/show-parent-folder/ -
Please allow "sticky" cookies. (copied from Security and Privacy after I just found this thread)
I just went through and deleted a bunch of cookies. It's tedious.
I almost never do this because it takes so long to do. There must be an easier way!
I want to keep some cookies which actually do something useful, so I don't want to delete them all.
It would be really cool if I could mark the cookies I want saved (in some persistent way) so I could tell Vivaldi to delete everything except the "good" ones.
As a workaround, it would also be good (but not as good) to be able to store a file of just the good cookies (after having manually deleted everything else) and to use that later to overwrite the current cookies. There's a cookie manager add-on for Firefox that has this functionality.
This is not nearly as good as marking cookies would be because you have to go through everything from scratch if the set of cookies you want to save changes. It would also restore the "good" cookies with old saved contents, not what they currently have in them.
This would be even better if there was an option to do it automatically once a day (maybe the first time Vivaldi is opened in a day). (Doing it every time the browser is opened would probably be too often.)

Please add Print Selection option to Vivaldi's print dialog (copied from All Platforms after I just found this thread)
I print a lot of articles from the web. These are almost always surrounded by tons of clutter. Besides being annoying, this can cause content to be truncated on the right and can add many pages of garbage after the end of the article.
Firefox uses the native print dialog which has a Print Selection option to handle this (but it also messes up a lot of pages that Vivaldi gets right.)
In Vivaldi, I can also select the native print dialog to get this option, but it would be nice if it was available in Vivaldi's print dialog so I don't have to retrain my muscle memory (and my AutoKey printing macro on Linux) to also press the shift key.

@Livsnyter:
What I miss:
(โฆ)- Ad block, the one in Opera 12.17 almost never get detected from sites that prevent you from reading their stuff if you have a ad blocker installed
- Official portable version, no data stored on local machine. One of the reasons I still stuck with Opera 12.17
(...)
Really looking forward for:
- E-mail client
- Synchronizing
Those are some of the features I miss from the "good old" Opera 12, especially the "portability" in the means of easy browser data backup/restore. Right now I have both the "new" Opera and Vivaldi installed as a standalone apps but their "portability" is close to 0 (zero).
Recently I have moved onto a new machine and I have lost all of my stored passwords, even though I have copied all of the browsers folders contents. Now I know that this is due to the way the
RetardiumChromium encrypts the passwords, so that they become useless once you move them onto another computer.I would really appreciate a feature that would allow users to move their browsers across different machines [AKA portable version] or at least backup their data (including passwords!) and restore it somewhere else [AKA profile syncing].
Keep up the good work!

I usually opens many tabs and read them, but they are opening too far from current tab and getting even farther when I open many links from the same page, can you have settings to have each tab to be open right after current tab.
Have you checked settings? This feature is already implemented.
Another suggestions:
- Option to export browser settings.
- Possibility to see image properties (size, dimensions, etc.). Currently, the only way to check image size is to save it first.
- Ability to move image with the mouse cursor when it doesn't fit within the window. Scrolling isn't too much comfortable.
- Mouse gestures sensitivity. In Opera 12, at close tab gesture, just 5 pixels to the right was enough to close the tab, which made navigation more comfortable. In Vivaldi threshold is higher, so it often happens to me that the new tab is opened instead of closure. Please change it or add an option to set sensitivity.
- Possibility to remove the home button from toolbar.

This should be an easy fix: Please add "Contact Us" &/or "Report a Bug" link
to "Help" [from the Menu Bar or icon] & to the bottom of the Welcome page. Thanks! -
