(History of) Vivaldi Feature Requests

I like to see the ability to go straight to the bug report url (https://vivaldi.com/bugreport/) from the Vivaldi Menu (the one you get by clicking the Vivaldi icon in the top left corner)
-
Please add "Open link in the same tab in subgroup" or something like that to right mouse menu when click on link.
Another my idea is to add maybe not a function, but more something like easter egg. :> This browser's name was after Antonio Vivaldi, famous and well-know composer most known as the author of the Four Seasons. So why not make a hidden fragment of Vivaldi's music in Vivaldi browser? For example when user enter a specified key combo the short fragment of Four Seasons play in Vivaldi window from computer's speakers. :>
And last thing: Please add a smooth animations for opening and closing tabs. This feature is not neseserly for good browser working, but this is a cosmetic way to improve Vivaldi's look, design and presentation.

opera's animated speeddial background (Theme) is fantastic!
I'd like to use Opera's rain dropping background on Vivaldi.
also want speeddial background theme automatic switcher like slide but with animated one. -
I would like to suggest the addition of https://ixquick.com to the default search engine selection included with Vivaldi. And for those who would like a European URL, https://ixquick.nl
Ixquick is a privacy oriented search engine, like duckduckgo, and received the first such certification in the EU in 2008.
Ixquick does not record your IP address etc. Details here: https://ixquick.com/eng/protect-privacy.html?hmb=1Ixquick has a related search engine, startpage, which forwards your search terms anonymously to google. So if one really wants a google search without being logged or the results being restricted to one's own google search bubble, startpage can also be used.
(I am not connected with ixquick)
(my apologies if this has already been done since I installed vivaldi a few months ago)

If the developing team not very soon makes it possible to "open URL" from the File menu, as well as "open file", I will leave Vivaldi. I'm not interested in having the address bar, or any other bar, occupying my screen. This ought to be very simple to implement. The developing team has failed in most requests so far, and focused on browsing features any other browser has, instead of making Vivaldi convenient for developers and simple users. Do they read this thread at all? I doubt.

I'd like to see the option to empty the trash bin [upper right corner at end of Tab bar (with Tab bar at the top of the screen)] automatically when Vivaldi is closed. Thanks!
-
Another Feature Request/Change I'd like to see here is to change the title of the "Reply Topic" box at the beginning/top of each forum to "New Topic" to avoid confusion. "Reply" box/option should appear after a forum post if the user is logged in, in my opinion.
Actually, after thinking about this, all these postings are just "replies" to an original post & not new postings. My apologies!

Another feature or change I think would be good is the ability to delete Speed Dial Suggestions &/or transfer them to the Bookmarks from a right-click menu on any of the suggestions. In others words, using the right mouse button on any 'suggestion' would open a menu with 3 options: remove that particular suggestion, add it to Bookmarks & the third option would be to delete all of them. Thanks for your consideration & all your efforts!

- Make possibility to choose Vivaldi's GUI color for webmasters (with JS or CSS).
- Instead of loading page in blocks on the Speed Dial, look for link with attribute rel="apple-touch-icon-precomposed" and use it.

Hi,
Please add Master-Password for Vivaldi if possible. Also like to see "tab hibernation" feature, and max cache storage option.
Regards

How about a Torrent downloader like torch as well as a audio/video grabber?

Hello,
pretty please, with sugar on top, implement the "click tab to minimize" feature
Can't be too hard, since it is already possible to choose "Activate Previous in Activation Order" when closing a tab.I want to be able to send tabs to the background and thereby activate the previous tab in the activation order (without the need to close any). That would be so great…

Open bundle.js in a text editor, replace
,e.get("active")||(t.stopPropagation(),g.openPage(e))
with
;if(e.get("active")){this.switchBackBySetting(e);}else{t.stopPropagation();g.openPage(e);} -
Please implement the ability to change source code of a page and get the changes applied in the tab like it was possible in old Opera:
ctrl+U to get the source tab (implemented already)
editing text there is possible
clicking "apply" makes the corresponding page get updated; and if that was a locally stored page, the new content is saved on disk as well.Editing remote pages' source is quite useful at times, especially for changing bad CSS (dark background with dark text, or font family not supported by.. OS? previously I've seen such thing only in old Opera, but now I've met this in Vivaldi in a Typeform form), and editing local files is even more useful if you deal with some custom html pages or, say, TiddlyWiki.

Simpler tab cycler menu.
I get the appeal of the big thumbnails, but it can only show 5 sites at a time like that. I would absolutely love if there was the option to simply have it as a list with the page titles and possibly the site's favicons. Pretty much like the good Opera had.

URL file handling drag&drop from address bar, d&d links on page to desktop/folder, d&d .url files into the browser window
- multiple .url files dropped in, multiple tabs should open after a count warning, not just the 1st one
- current url file name convention is wrong, it should be the Title of the page, same name collision is much more unlikely that way (only Vivaldi is doing it the wrong way)
- ctrl+s like function to save open tab as url file would be a nice feature
- a right click, save all tabs as .url files would be nice too, drag&drop is a waste of time if you want to save your session this way
Why url files?
Let's say you have downloaded some files, various kind of things connected to one project and you want to store the source of those. You won't go for bookmarks or saved sessions, they are locked to your browser and they would mix with other thing used often, you just want to know, let's say a year later, where those files came from. Later on when you delete those files you delete the .url files in that folder too, so you don't have to go through your bookmarks/sessions to find and match the outdated links. Typical use is when I'm looking for the best price/value thing and the results can be interesting with in a year after the purchase, but not anymore. What is an .url file?
It's a shortcut type from the Windows OS, the pointed url will open in the default browser, (don't know how Linux dose it, but seen it on OS X too), contents are like in an ini file:
[InternetShortcut]
URL=https://vivaldi.net/en-US/forum/all/746-vivaldi-feature-request/replyThe thing is that without this feature (mostly the wrong file name convention) I cannot use Vivaldi as my default browser. I used to have one browser (+ff for the rare compatibility issues) but since old Opera I have to use numerous at once.

Thanks for your requests, we read them and our UI team has the following replies to some of your UI questions:
Q: Could you stop animating things please?
A: We have added a setting that removes all animations and transitions from the browser.Q: You should use FreeType on Linux (and maybe everywhere)?
A: Swapping font rendering libraries is a big task. If you feel strongly about this, please file a bug report/feature request.Q: New tab button must not move!
A: We plan to add more extensive customization options, where you could place buttons where you want. There is currently no plan to change the default.Q: Could you please add a Bookmarks menu?
A: Absolutely. We are working on this.Q: I would like to close speed dial folders with "Escape".
A: That sounds reasonable. Please file a bug report/feature request.Q: I made a design proposal (Vivaldi button to the right, trash next to URL, navigation buttons smaller, tabs to the very left)
A: Wow, nice! We love seeing users both tinkering with the raw files and sketching things out. That being said, there are reasons for having the UI the way it is. Many of those are quite boring. But watch out for coming customisation options, which will let you make money of these changes.Q: Thumbnails are sometimes not there?
A: Thumbnail generation is tricky, and there are still some holes like the one you found. Please file a bug report.Q: My mouse cursor disappears in fullscreen?
A: This is likely due to the video overlay being drawn on top of the mouse cursor. This could be a driver or plugin(Flash?) issue. If you think this is Vivaldi causing trouble, please file a bug report.Q: Will you support themes and skins?
A: We have top men working on it right now.Q: Can you make animations 60 fps please?
A: Our current priorities has been getting features in, sometimes at the expense of performance and fluidity. High-quality animations is an ongoing task. You can see some of our latest work when dragging tabs.Q: Could you please make the panel animation less jumpy?
A: We would very much like to. We have improved on it several times, but the crux of the problem is crossprocess communication and that is tricky. We will keep working on this.Q: Can you let us remove some buttons please?
A: Yes. Eventually you will be able to move buttons where you please.Q: Could we get icons in the context menus?
A: This is up for discussion. We don't want to end up in a situation where we have icons everywhere.Q: Could you add a link to the bug report webpage from the UI?
A: Maybe—file a bug report for it.Q: Could you display page load speed as well as bytes and elements in the address bar?
A: We probably could, please make a bug report/feature request.Q: Consider adding smooth transitions for opening and closing tabs?
A: Already on our list!Q: Add support for animated Speed dial backgrounds?
A: We allready support GIF and WEBP animations on the Speed Dial. If you want other formats please make a bug report/feature request.Q: How can webmasters set the Vivaldi's GUI color?
A: By using the META tag theme-color you can specify this directly. -
Thanks for your request.
1 & 2 are in the pipeline but they take time.
3. we'll look into it. -
Hi Team_Vivaldi,
You guys already know you got my UI requests that I've sent a few times. I have a few new ones.
- In this new snapshot that came out today, there is now a message when you toggle fullscreen for a video that says "Vivaldi is now showing in fullscreen. Press F11 to exit". It's really annoying. One of the things I loved about Vivaldi is that it never showed a message when I go fullscreen, and I would love the ability to turn that off. I hate having to wait 5 long seconds for the message to get off a person's face in the video before I can start enjoying the video. Even Safari I think doesn't do this because it's probably bad from a design standpoint.
I did try to type chrome://settings/contentExceptions#fullscreen, but nothing even pops up when I do that to change one of the sites. Try it. If there's a workaround, let me know.

This is a minuscule detail, but the menu for the menu button and for every button is not lined up with the highlighted area around the button that shows that you clicked it. eg. the context menu for the back button isn't up against the edge of the screen where the highlighted area around the back button would be, and is spaced away from the edge of the screen. Same with the menu button menu, it's not touching the edge of the screen. Such a minuscule detail, but I noticed it and wanted to mention it to help give Vivaldi the utmost polish.
-
Not sure how I feel about the loading bar. Not sure what I could say that would be better and nicer looking though. Maybe it's because it doesn't move as fluidly or it moves too slowly.
-
Not sure if I said this, but make change the garbage can icon in the bookmarks/notes panel to the same one as the garbage can icon on the tab bar. The one on the tab bar is so much nicer looking.
-
A history panel.
-
There was a regression a snapshot or two ago where the transparent background tabs has those bottom right indicators back on them. If you're going to keep that, make it lighter-colored, and maybe even give us the option to disable it.
-
Add back the open tab next to active one for a new tab. And while you're at it, put in the option to go to the left tab or right tab after closing a tab. But don't remove any current tab features. This way, you have options for everything.
-
The ability to discard tab stacks and individual tabs within tab stacks without having to click on them first.
-
To have the main part of the website(the root URL) on the address bar in black, and the rest of the website sub-address in grey. Firefox does this and it looks nice. But if others don't like it, put it up as an option.
-
For some reason, my reply isn't showing up.
