Contextual Notes / "Sticky" Notes
-
Hello, I'm new here. I have searched for this, but I haven't seen it suggested. If it has, please feel free to remove this and redirect to the proper feature suggestion.
The notes feature is great. I noticed that it is possible to sort by address. This is useful, but it would be nice if the notes were contextual to the active tab.
This can work many ways, so here's a few. If the note corresponds to the webpage you are currently on, it would be highlighted in the notes menu. This will allow you to easily locate the note, and continue where you left off.
Another implementation is similar to one I have already seen suggested. It is something like a sticky note. This can work in two ways. One is a floating window that can be moved. Another is to fix the note window to the tab bar itself. There could be three states: icon state (where the note is fully minimized), a preview state, where a few lines can be read, and can be accessed by simply clicking in the text box, and fully open state. The fully open state would overlay on top of the webpage near the top. This can be intrusive, but can be solved by allowing the user to detach the note, and convert it to a movable window.
This contextual idea would mean that every tab that has a note will allow you to access it without needing to open a menu. It's essentially a shortcut.
Hopefully that all makes sense.
At the risk of over explaining, here's a visual reference: when you hover over a tab, a preview box appears below it. For a note, pretend that instead of a hover, there's a toggle (ie. a note icon of course) , and pretend that the preview box is a text box that appears for note taking. Perhaps you can customize whether the box would stay there until you clicked a minimize button (convenient if you want to copy and paste content from a webpage), or would auto-minimize as soon as you clicked anywhere outside the box (ie. the webpage).
Thank you,
cheers--

I too was thinking of a "Sticky Note" sort of implementation. Only I think a simpler implementation would be to have a feature on the Notes Panel which, if turned on, automatically looked for an displayed a note that's tied to the current URL, Website, or Window Title - whichever would be most effective. So when I have that panel open, whatever site I click on, the note(s) I wrote about it are automatically displayed as soon as the page opens.
This would be similar to NoteZilla's "Stick note to window" feature, but I think, with far less programming involved. -
