Solved Downloads don´t end
-
Sometimes a download seems to be complete and it stays decreasing download speed but really never ending. Even if I close Vivaldi and reopen Vivaldi and try agains to download the problem remains...
-
@paulonuvem...
It hapens to me with the downloads from Indiegala but not witn other downloads. Maybe it´s a problem with AdBlock Plus extension. I will check it...
Yes. It is a problem with AdBlock Plus Extension. I´ve disabled AdBlock on Indiegala website download page... and the download had no problems: fast and easy

I am having the same problem. Apart from that, having multiple downloads (more than 2) slows down Vivaldi drastically, it stops responding and eventually crashes.
Vivaldi: 4.0.2312.27 (Stable channel) (64-bit)
Windows 10 20H2 (Build 19042.1052)
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-7200U CPU @ 2.50GHz 2.70 GHz
Installed RAM 8.00 GB -
It seems it´s a Vivaldi bug... Today I have tried to download a game of 400mb and the problem started at 20mb... I tried the same download with Brave browser and it was all ok and fast (only needed about 20 seconds)... so: it´s a Vivaldi bug. Hope it´s corrected soon.
-
@paulonuvem , no problems here, yesterday downloades 3 Gb without problems (something slow ~10-15 Mbs).
But this is because the Defender/AV scan the file while download it, for the same reason sometimes at 100% download don't disapear the download bar for several seconds or minutes, before it free the file, because the AV consults online in files which are suspect for it.
Probably not a Vivaldi problem, but of some files or AV. Also a extension can cause similar problems.
You can test it, pausing the AV while downloading a file from trusted sources. -
@catweazle Nothing to do with AV.
Have you read my post where I said?: «I tried the same download with Brave browser and it was all ok and fast (only needed about 20 seconds)».
If it was AV blocking should block also download on Brave... but not.

That’s why you should test that in a separate clean profile before blaming Vivaldi browser.
What´s a clean profile? Anycase I didn´t «blame» Vivaldi just because... Have you read what I wrote?! I said I have tried with Brave and there was no problem, no problem downloading Indiegala game with Firefox as well (even with Firefox having AdBlock Plus extension enabled!)... So, I ask you: why that problem only on Vivaldi?! It seems a problem of Vivaldi... kinf of bug, perhaps because now started its own blocking ads engine. Even, if I have disabled that blocking ads new function of Vivaldi before I had the problems with downloading Indiegala game at Vivaldi. I´m not an expert... but I try to make my best. All I know of computers is from self learning: it is not much but better then avarage. Gwen-dragon: before blaming me, you should try thinking better about the problem of interaction between blocking ads new function of Vivaldi and 3rd party extensions with same function like AdBlock Plus... maybe it has something to do related with the downloading problem I had and that I could solve with the help/sugestion of @catweazle
-
@paulonuvem , you can create a guest profile, which is a clean one, like a recent install with default config, without extensions.
It's good for testing, to see if a problem is caused by a extension in your main profile. -

I didn´t looked at. I just clicked on Profile and clicked on guest profile and... it opened a new window with a clean profile. But thanks anyway...
It seems really usefull, because on my main profile I have hundreds of tabs...

Perhaps a warning should be added if using Chrome Web store privacy extensions and internal Vivaldi Blocker.
Thanks for understanding me.
Yeah, a warning should be a good idea.
I´m thinking about remove AdBlock Plus but I don´t know how it will behave internal Vivaldi Blocker. the thing it´s that I have «hundreds» of tabs on Vivaldi and I can disconect AdBlock Plus on each tab if I want. Is it possible do disconect internal Vivaldi Blocker only on specific tabs?
Other problem I see is that with so many tabs open on Vivaldi, tabs stay so small that hardly I can see it. Why not a rolling tab bar like Firefox
?!
Here
it´s raining «cats and dogs»

I investigate much technical stuff on WWW and need more that 10 tabs, much more.
I guess many users would love a tabbar with better usability.https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/24406/horizontal-tab-scrolling-instead-of-shrinking

I also have seen this behaviour with Vivaldi recently. The download appears to function but gets progressively slower, and never ends. So much so that i now have to use different browsers if i want to download anything. This is a shame because Vivaldi is my preferred browser, and has been for a long time.
If its any help, paulonuvem might be on to something with the Ad-Block, because i think this behaviour started when Vivaldi released their Cookie Crumbler update. I enabled that, but its buried deep in the settings and i cant remember where to turn it off again.
I agree with paulonuvem, it is nothing to do with any AV software, as other browsers (all of them) Firefox, Chrome, Edge, PaleMoon, Avant etc, etc, can all download files without issue. It ONLY affects Vivaldi.
I have 2 Vivaldi profiles, one for Work stuff the other for Home stuff. The download problem exists in both.
I also notice that Vivaldi ends up with dozens of processes in Task Manager despite only having 1 or 2 tabs open.
I hope they can find and fix this issue.

@Gwen-Dragon thanks for taking time to reply. No i havent been on Win7 for a long time. My current machine is always as up-to date as it can be. Currently Win10 Pro, version 21H1. I notice it tends to be the trend to list the spec in the signature, sorry for not doing that. If it has any bearing mine is Ryzen7 2700X 8 core / 64GB RAM.
Furthermore, i notice previous posters saying about size of a particular download, i dont think that makes any difference, as i have seem small files such as just 9MB from GitHub show this strange phenomenon.
Im sort of convinced its something to do with the Vivaldi Cookie Crumbler update, although there have been a couple of minor Vivaldi iterations since then. I will experiment with my work laptop which is a truly awful spec and still has Win8. I have not enabled the Cookie Crumbler thing on that one. But i hardly ever need to download anything on it, instead favouring my beefy desktop machine. Ill see what happens.
