Turn off frequently visited sites
-
This is the exact "feature" that drove me away from a previous browser and made me try Vivalidi!
Right now I'm trying to figure out how to turn it OFF in this browser
(mod edit: Forked OT from feature request to new topic)
-
@biggly It’s not visible on the startpage until you hit the
+
sign, this means it’s not very intrusive. Moreover it doesn’t show anything that isn’t already in your history. You can completely ignore it, never hit the+
sign and even disable the+
sign invivaldi://settings/startpage/
by unticking “Show Add Button.” Then you just add to your speed dial by making a new bookmark and choosing a folder assigned as speed dial. -
@biggly If privacy is the issue, go to Settings, Privacy, Browsing History, and set it to Session Only. Then restart Vivaldi. Or, Delete Browsing Data, Browsing History.

@luetage Thanks, have removed the +, now how to get rid of the same frequently visited pages on the web panel +?
I just tried deleting history... gone. OK, try the + for web panels... same thing, the frequently visited sites are still there.
How to get rid of that?

"Before you read on, be aware that you need knowledge of CSS and/or JavaScript"
I have no knowledge of such things.
-
And I have to ask how we even got such an annoying feature?
If it's a frequently-visited page or site then I don't need any help getting there, do I?
-
@biggly The way I work is like this:
- The sites that I visit daily or very frequently are on Speed Dial (1 click)
- The sites that I visit frequently are on my Bookmark Bar (2 clicks)
- The sites that I rarely visit, but keep for reference, are on my Bookmarks Menu and in the Panel. (3 or more clicks)
So, to me it makes perfect sense to suggest frequently visited sites to add to speed dial if they are no there already.
-
But why not allow us to turn this off, or blacklist certain sites from being shown?
If I frequently visit a site but have never added it, then that should be a clue that I don't WANT to add it, can find it by myself and I don't want to be reminded of the thing I didn't want, again and again and again.
ESPECIALLY if it's sensitive stuff such as what crypto exchange I use, what porn sites I visit, job sites when looking for a different job, that I spend too much time on Reddit or whatever.
This should be privacy 101, basic UX and now it's on the side 'web panels' as well?
Can we not?
-
@biggly Use a Private Window for sensitive stuff.
-
Does that stop it getting onto all these menus everywhere?
We can delete history but cannot delete frequently visited page 'suggestions'? How does that make sense?
-
@luetage said in Frequently Visited Sites for Start Page:
.addwebpanel-wrapper {
display: none;
}Can I just paste that onto a text file and stick it in a custom folder, or is there something more?
Rename the .txt file as .css or something?
Update: replying to my own question above, that worked, by entirely removing the + button.
Crude but effective. I don't mind the + button, I just don't like the "This guy is into crypto, this is the exchange he uses, these are the political sites he visits, these... etc
Let's hope it sticks after the next update?
-
@biggly It sticks. And all of the sites shown are from your own history and stay local. Vivaldi doesn’t access it. When you sync history to the servers it is being encrypted, Vivaldi can never access it.

I tried earlier to thank you for your help and somehow posted to the wrong thread.
Thanks!
