Apparent mail folder indexing loop
-
I've just installed the latest stable Vivaldi version and I'm trying out the mail client on my office account. Everything was setup correctly and I can see all my folders and emails, so that's fine. But now all of this is done, I'm encountering a strange behavior: I see a "Fetching" badge moving on all my mail folders while the status bar says something like "Finished indexing - email address/folder name" in a loop. I've waited for quite a few minutes now, and it doesn't seem to ever stop.
Not sure it's related, but if I run Vivaldi in a terminal, I see a lot of messages like:
1032:1032:0609/134419.154154:ERROR:CONSOLE(0)] "Error: Socket closed unexpectedly!", source: (0) [1032:1032:0609/134419.154200:ERROR:CONSOLE(8)] "Error: Socket closed unexpectedly!", source: chrome-extension://mpognobbkildjkofajifpdfhcoklimli/background-common-bundle.js (8) [1032:1032:0609/134419.156654:ERROR:CONSOLE(8)] "Is logging into mail account $1,[email protected]", source: chrome-extension://mpognobbkildjkofajifpdfhcoklimli/background-common-bundle.js (8) [1032:1032:0609/134419.159743:ERROR:CONSOLE(8)] "Is logging into mail account $1,[email protected]", source: chrome-extension://mpognobbkildjkofajifpdfhcoklimli/background-common-bundle.js (8) [1032:1032:0609/134419.162574:ERROR:CONSOLE(8)] "Is logging into mail account $1,[email protected]", source: chrome-extension://mpognobbkildjkofajifpdfhcoklimli/background-common-bundle.js (8) [1032:1032:0609/134419.164888:ERROR:CONSOLE(1)] "Is logging into mail account $1,[email protected]", source: chrome-extension://mpognobbkildjkofajifpdfhcoklimli/background-common-bundle.js (1) [1032:1032:0609/134419.165109:ERROR:CONSOLE(1)] "Is logging into mail account $1,[email protected]", source: chrome-extension://mpognobbkildjkofajifpdfhcoklimli/background-common-bundle.js (1) [1032:1032:0609/134419.165323:ERROR:CONSOLE(1)] "Is logging into mail account $1,[email protected]", source: chrome-extension://mpognobbkildjkofajifpdfhcoklimli/background-common-bundle.js (1) [1032:1032:0609/134419.166356:ERROR:CONSOLE(8)] "Uncaught (in promise) [object Array]", source: chrome-extension://mpognobbkildjkofajifpdfhcoklimli/background-common-bundle.js (8) [1032:1032:0609/134420.419970:ERROR:CONSOLE(10)] "[ERROR][2021-06-09T11:44:20.419Z][18][[email protected]][imap.online.net] Error: Socket closed unexpectedly!", source: chrome-extension://mpognobbkildjkofajifpdfhcoklimli/background-common-bundle.js (10) [1032:1032:0609/134420.421544:ERROR:CONSOLE(8)] "[2021-06-09T11:44:20.421Z][imap-client] Error: IMAP connection encountered an error! Not a serious issue, it's just that seeing this badge and this message blinking all the time is kind of distracting, and there's obviously something wrong happening here.
Any idea about how I can fix that?
Thanks!

I seem to have a somewhat similar issue, but I get another output in the terminal:
[10840:10840:0610/170058.618116:ERROR:CONSOLE(1)] "Error: Unexpected char at position 872", source: chrome-extension://mpognobbkildjkofajifpdfhcoklimli/background-common-bundle.js (1) [10840:10840:0610/170058.618529:ERROR:CONSOLE(0)] "Not connected to $1 - Attempting to connect,<EMAILREDACTED>@iCloud.Com", source: (0)
And I continuously see the "Connected to.." and "Indexing.." in the status field. This only happen with my iCloud email, while my other account (SoGo based) seems to cause no such issue.
Removing the iCloud account makes the problem disappear.Edit: I have reported my issue as VB-80536.

@drakfot Thanks for reporting the issue. Since I had the problem, I've downloaded & installed 2 Vivaldi updates, but I'm still seeing this problem. So I'd like to follow your issue, but I can't find where I can do that. Would it be possible for you to provide a link to it? Thanks!

@eb303 From what I gather there is no status page for the tickets, I got an automated reply that they will have a look at it and that they might get back to me regarding more information etc via mail.
But I'll try and keep this thread updated with any new information I might get regarding the issueIf you want to make a bug report for your issue you can do it here: https://vivaldi.com/bugreport/
Cheers!

There is a thread where you can ask for someone to check the status of your bug report, but it can take time before any of the developers have a look at it. If you nag people about checking your bug they may start ignoring you, so don't get carried away with it. We're volunteers and can't tell the developers what to do. And of course if the bug is tied to one particular mail service it might be hard for them to reproduce as perhaps no one there has an account with that servicer.
Just saying have some patience with them, it probably won't be fixed tomorrow.

@sgunhouse Thanks for that, but my intention is certainly not to bug anyone with this. If it could be easily followed, I would have done it; if not, so be it, I'll just wait. It would just have been to avoid trying again after each version update to see if the problem was still there.
And yes, it does seem to be related to particular mail services that might not behave like most other ones. My work email is provided by the company hosting our website, and there's hardly any chance that anyone working on the issue has an email address provided by this very company, so I'm conscious it might be very difficult to identify.
-
@eb303 Do you know the name of the software they use, or the supplier of the mail server?
-
@sgunhouse We're using the mail provided by the company hosting our website; it's a french company named Scaleway (https://www.scaleway.com). I did a bit of research and came up with this page:
https://www.scaleway.com/en/docs/setup-a-mailserver-on-ubuntu-bionic-beaver-with-dovecot-postfix-rspamd/
This describes how to setup things by yourself on one of their servers, but considering their webmail is Roundcube, as described in their tutorial, they might be doing the same thing when you ask for a "standard" email solution. -
