Solved Cant install extensions from Chrome Store
-
Hello.
Recently I realized that a button to add extension from Chrome Store disappeared form the pages. So I can't add extensions to Vivaldi. Although I can load Edge, visit the same page and see the Install button.
I looked through the Vivaldi's help. It's said it still supports extensions. And also my Vivaldi (3.8.2259.42 (Stable channel) (64-bit)) has some installed.
How can I some new ones?

@zeleboba
Settings | Privacy | Google Extensions
& tickWeb Store

@hlehyaric that was easy! Thanks!
-
@zeleboba , in the same menu you must mark also Crypto Token, if you want to use some other Google Service.
Without this you can't log in this services. -
@catweazle thanks!

I really think Vivaldi needs warnings, when something isn't working because you've turned the Google stuff off the the settings.

I think, these settings have to be hidden so most users can not find them.
No! Many users do not like Google.
A warning is easy. When you go to any google sub domain with google services disabled have a dismissible warning that you might not be able to use google services.
Also the Vivaldi team should internally review the packaged extension’s code and list the ones that do not contact google separately.
-
@gwen-dragon That’s exactly what I mentioned before, you have to protect users from blind Google hate and disabling everything, or they will blame Vivaldi for basic stuff not working. Not everyone who runs into such an issue will find their way here, half of them might as well uninstall Vivaldi and never look back.

@luetage Vivaldi shouldn't protect users by taking away options!
But it should have clearer warnings.
-
@code3 It was about hiding, not removing. If you hide this behind an experiment, only advanced users who can handle it will find it. What the roadblock is doesn’t matter that much, but there should be one.
-
@luetage I'm not sure how I feel about that. If it is done, all google extensions that contact google for something other than updates should not be hidden, and there should be a note in settings about how to disable the full options. Maybe there could be some kind of about:config for Vivaldi.
-
@luetage , I think that it is not that complicated, just put in the privacy settings, there is simply a phrase missing that says that without activating Crypto Tokens some Google services will not work .
Besides, there are already warnings about it under the options, at least in Spanish.
Vivaldi's configuration is very extensive and a new user may get lost in it. For this reason, perhaps it would be more appropriate to separate the basic and advanced configuration a bit. This would be more productive. -
