Guide | Switches from Registry

Guides
Hi,
Recently noticed that Switches added to shortcuts, are not applied when V is launched from an external link in a cold start.
Looking at Registry, on Windows 7, seen some entries with:
--single-argument %1
.Just added the Switches before and worked.
Now looks like:--enable-low-end-device-mode --process-per-site --force-dark-mode --enable-features=OverlayScrollbar--single-argument %1
--
The Entries, here, Windows 7 x64 :
Note the
Shell | FTP | HTTP | HTTPS
--
--
At
Value
They are linked and got populated editing just one of each
FTP | HTTP | HTTPS
--
Note
Not sure whether the changes will be kept after V update, so Export the entries once done, tested and confirmed.
BackUp the Registry before proceed
- Win + R
- Write RegEdit + Enter
File | Export
- Go to:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\VivaldiHTM.CWH53WBJZZSUTKONTXPSRLD2VU\shell\open\command\\(default)

You can try Registrar Registry Manager, search for
--single-argument %1
.
All the entries will be listed, locate and Edit.+
Win | Shortcut Search and Replace
--
It would work for the rest of Chromiums.
--
If anyone wants to contribute with the respective entries on other OSs, it will be added.
Thank you

Just out of curiosity, why are you using the topic title to create a collection of guides through search? As a moderator you should be able to tag the topics as Guide. This can both be searched and found on the tags page. Moreover each guide tagged that way will have a link to the other guides at the bottom of the first post, as well as at the bottom of each page in the topic. It’s automatic and convenient.

@Zalex108 Thanks for the tip on Registrar - it looks like a really useful tool for advanced registry searching and editing
Full version is a bit expensive so I will have to see if I can find if it's worth it.
I'm often in the Windows Registry to check various stuff, and I've been using the positively ancient RegAlyzer, which still works fine but a more modern tool would be nice to have.
The Win10 registry is a bit different than in Win7. For one thing it uses some kind of "magic sauce" I've not yet been able to figure out for the protocol associations and default applications when set from the new Win10 Settings UI compared to the old Win7 Default Programs.
For instance, I had Firefox installed before I installed Vivaldi back several years ago, and the
.html/.htm
classes are still registered asFirefoxHTML
. And the shell>open>command forhttp/https
is still registered to open in Firefox. But theVivaldiHTM
class is correctly registered and I have no problems opening html files in Vivaldi or clicking links in Thunderbird to open either. So exactly how the OS knows to open Vivaldi and not Firefox is not clear to me... but it works :smiling_face_with_open_mouth_closed_eyes: -
Microsoft Mysteries
RRM Home version has some limitation, with the Pro trial you may see if fits.
Have fun xD and share your conclusionsRRM it's very complete and easy to use for some tasks. Didn't deeped to much on all the possibilitys it manages so sometimes I jump to RegEdit since the complexity.

Check the Help Page]
RegAlizer not tested that much, it's there, in the +/- 12Gb folder.

Here V it's as Standalone, then applied the check Default from V Settings.
Previously was Opera and not seen any trace.
Worth to mention that here it is Edge Chromium in Portable mode and it appears on the Registry when searching for
--single-argument %1
, even despite never was selected as Default. Not tested Flags there, maybe at some point.

Good that despite the Chaos V works. -
@Zalex108 One interesting thing I've looked into lately is that the value of
DestinationFolder
for Vivaldi under HKCU\Software will be overwritten when installing standalone versions for testing. Something which in turn seems to break the automatic updater. But I don't use the auto-update or notifier since I follow the forums so it doesn't really bother me.Note the value of
DestinationFolder
below, while the Vivaldi snapshot I use as the default browser is installed inD:\bin\Vivaldi\
:[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Vivaldi] "UsageStatsInSample"=dword:00000000 "usagestats"=dword:00000000 "metricsid"="" "metricsid_installdate"="0" "metricsid_enableddate"="0" "DestinationFolder"="d:\\bin\\Vivaldi-test\\3.8" "InstallType"=dword:00000002 "DefaultBrowser"=dword:00000000 "AdvancedMode"=dword:00000001 "lang"="en-GB" "LastWasDefault"=hex(B):CD,76,91,38,E9,1E,2F,00 "EnablePinToTaskbar"=dword:00000001 "InstallerProgress"=dword:00000064 "UninstallString"="D:\\bin\\Vivaldi\\Application\\3.8.2259.3\\Installer\\setup.exe" "UninstallArguments"=" --uninstall" "name"="Vivaldi" "pv"="3.8.2259.3" "InstallerResult"=dword:00000000 "InstallerError"=dword:00000002 "InstallerSuccessLaunchCmdLine"="\"D:\\bin\\Vivaldi\\Application\\vivaldi.exe\" --from-installer" "InstallerResultUIString"="Installation failed due to unspecified error. Please download Vivaldi again." "DowngradeVersion"="3.8.2259.3"
I install a lot of different Standalone installs under
D:\bin\Vivaldi-test\
and the last version is always overwritten.I might report a bug if I can be bothered

Saw your latest posts about that.
Here, saw the Temp is on %User% Local Temp with a random number if I recall.
All the AutoUpdates work fine, and since less than a month there are 2 different Snaps and Stables versions altogether.
AutoUpdate is launched manually till now, need to check the New Task.
It appears with a random number as well.Saw entries for the Latest, maybe the latest versions updated, as you comment, but since doing other tasks didn't looked deeply to understand the routine.
Will check in next days, and between next updates.
