@stardust Time to follow the
@perm @giranggi protocol, perchance? -
-
@stardust See! You've not been keeping up with your forum reading -- naughty!
-
Oh btw, not sure if you already know this, but fwiw, here's my latest addition to my
user.js
:// guigirl 12/2/22: https://www.ghacks.net/2022/02/11/how-to-fix-hardware-video-acceleration-in-firefox-on-linux/ -- How to enable hardware video acceleration in Firefox 97+ on Linux: user_pref("media.ffmpeg.vaapi.enabled", true); user_pref("media.rdd-vpx.enabled", true);
-
@guigirl I know Vivaldi Stable was release recently!
-
@stardust Well golly gee, i was wrong ... clearly you're right at the cutting edge after all.
-
@guigirl yup! I don't like Snapshot RCs that much, the are boring, so Vivaldi Stable release was a biggest news

My default search engine changed after updating Firefox to version 98
Firefox lets you choose from a number of built-in search engines to set as your default. After updating to Firefox version 98, some users might have noticed that their default search engine had been changed.
Why did my search engine change?
This change is happening because Mozilla was unable to secure formal permission to continue including certain search engines in Firefox. We provided an opportunity to previously-included search engines to sign an agreement and the engines that did not complete the agreement will be removed from Firefox. -
@guigirl thanks for the info! I will monitor the next Firefox update
Why they don't say which search engines were removed?
-
@stardust If it's any comfort for you...
-
@guigirl that's a lot of engines!
-
@stardust Vroom vroom vrooooooooooooooooooooooooooooom.
-
@stardust My, what big
teethengines you have, grandma! -
@guigirl You need a search engine to search for search engine keywords!
-
@tbgbe But, Shirley, it's not the size of my engines that counts, but how i use them?

To me Firefox Developer Edition > Firefox Stable > Edge > Vivaldi in performance:
- Vivaldi is noticeably slower on startup and can' keep responsive with a lower amount of tabs.
Again IMO UI customization Firefox in general is king through CSS and JS customization (also user.js).
Vivaldi has going for it the user workflows that it enables although i would consider Firefox to be tied for the most part but the latter tab management stands out.
Consider the well-known and used Tree Style Tabs (or less well known Sideberry or Tree Tabs addons) and my favorite combo - Simple Tab Groups + Tab Sidebar(CSS customized) for project and task management respectively.
With the help of another addon Manage My Tabs, a view of URL domain-grouped tabs in which groups can be sorted by tab count, one can more easily group tabs that are meant to be closer together and be able to be managed and put into groups and stacks by the other mentioned addons or natively respectively.
Which effectively aids in burning down and focusing in "tasks" in a "project". -
@guigirl Can't wait for Firefox fanboys bragging about having vertical tabbar first & re-rewrite tab browsing history all over again. LOL
