My Payment card details - sync with google server etc.
-
I moved from Chrome and I love Vivaldi so far.
A really important feature is credit card handling. I get that it's in vivaldi://settings/payments but I want to understand exactly how it works and where credit card data is stored and handled.
I looked for an official statement in vivaldi help about storage of credit card information, but I couldn't find one. I am very careful and cyber-conscious about most things but particularly credit card information, so I look for that sort of stuff.
It seems disconnected. Vivaldi isn't storing card details to google servers, yet the option...
To add or manage Google Pay payment methods, visit your Google Account
..Does show the cards I added using Chrome, but these do not sync to Vivaldi.
- Should that link be changed so it no longer points to google servers if it is not using them?
- Where does Vivaldi put my CC information instead?
- Do they sync anyway?
I have lots of questions.
It's not helped by chrome being unclear, e.g. In both Chrome and Vivaldi there is the statement; "This card will be saved to this device only", but that's always been in chrome and cards still get loaded to servers.
Is there any official Vivaldi source that states exactly how this works? Thanks.

@abssorb , Vivaldi don't sync to Google servers, it has it own encrypted sync server.

That's helpful, but I'm not looking for tech answers so much as something written somewhere tangible. I.e. like a link to a help page or something in terms and conditions.
I trust your answers, yet it's sort of like the difference between "Yes I can drive" and "here's a copy of my licence". This is credit cards, so I'm nervous. If there is something, that would be great to know about.

There's no need to apologise, the technical info you've provided is perfect. And the advice to not use it yet, if I am nervous, is very reasonable.
I'm looking for source / citation. I welcome answers on a forum, but they are not the same thing as a statement on a web site. A statement on a web site is a assertion from Vivaldi Technoloiges to all the internet and all its users. It's legally strong. A reply on a forum is from an individual representative of Vivaldi, just to me. Person to person.
Both could be true, accurate and technically perfect but only the first one would be legally strong, should evidence ever be required, e.g. for a credit card company.
It's OK if there isn't one yet. But we know that lack of search results is not conclusive, so I thought I would ask.

@Gwen-Dragon I think the settings there only works if you fill it. Never had a prompt to autofill/save my CC data (luckily).
@abssorb Probably the stored card will go to the chromium/vivaldi encrypted data. So only your user can access to it.
But honestly I'd avoid to use this autofill feature especially if you share your PC/vivaldi/phone with other people.
This as the phone is usually used for 2FA auth (confirm payments) from most banks. -
Hi @abssorb. It's true that there's no official documentation about this feature at this stage.
Thanks for raising the question. I've started looking into the topic with our devs and we hope to publish a help page about it soon. -
@jane-n Has such a page been written?
I am also curious, does it sync with Android?
