<update>
updated to the most recent Windows update, restarted computer - now problem solved??
Strange, don't understand it - but now a non-issue. Ignore the below.
</update>I think it is related, but on Youtube.com I cannot even go full-screen anymore in Vivaldi [have version 3.8.2259.42 (Stable channel) (64-bit)].
Here is what I see:
Same video in MS Edge works without issue.
When going to the 'learn more' text that is shown in the 'unavailable' button Google has this to say:
https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/72689"If full screen mode isn't working: If you’re watching videos on websites other than YouTube, the option to use full screen mode may be turned off."
... which makes little sense, since I am on the YouTube page itself. And this is not video dependent, but all YouTube vidoes - on Vivaldi.

i don't experience the bug. but i also don't watch 4k videos. you can report the bug here so the devs see it...

Can confirm this too, very slow on Windows 10 and latest stable Vivaldi 4.0.2312.41 with hardware acceleration enabled.

@tsunamiz said in BUG: YouTube video, the fullscreen transition is slow and clunky...:
With the release of version 3.7, Vivaldi bragged a lot about fast performance. But I'm disappointed that this part of Vivaldi is still very slow. When toggling fullscreen for a YouTube video, the fullscreen transition is slow and clunky, and always takes a few seconds to complete as Vivaldi slowly resizes things. Having slow performance problems like this can really turn away users from Vivaldi. Please prioritize a fix for it to make it feel almost instant.
[bug reported VB-78359]
The same thing happens to me on youtube. Uninstall Adguard and the problem is solved.

very slow here as well, I never posted about it as my vivaldi is tab heavy which could easily be to blame for this.
I think youtube itself is at least partially to blame, but is possible vivaldi needs optimising to improve it.
-
I noticed the same issue, especially after a longer session of using Vivaldi (then it needs sometimes 4 seconds to fully load fullscreen.
I disabled uBblock Orgin +AutoplayStopper and it fastend a little bit but still lacking in comparison to Firefox(with ublock without Autoplay Stopper which is not need there since videos dont play automatically). My graphic drives (AMD) are up to date and hardware acceleration is activated.
I really want to stick with vivaldi for so many reasons ( Stacking tabs, Translation, (Good )sync, themes...)
But this break in perfomance is beginning to be dealbreaker
I hope this gets fixed either by Chromiuim or Vivaldi devs. -

For me with Win 11 it takes about 2-3 sec to switch to fullscreen with F key.
I updated bug tracker and reopened bug VB-78359.

I noticed something that may be worth adding.
When i watch an youtube video that was embedded into another site (reddit in my case) the closing and opening of fullscreen is instant(via F button).
But on Youtube itself its hella slow.
Coud it be the load of ads ony YT that Ublock has to cut out ?@doctorg said in BUG: YouTube video, the fullscreen transition is slow and clunky...:

I can confirm. Meanwhile this resolves the problem for me https://forum.vivaldi.net/post/447330
Extension works very good, I've got several times faster transition to full screen. https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/dggbkbndbcaknaeobfieifmdcncmpaba -
@TsunamiZ Try these to help:
Restart Browser
Disable extensions
Disable ad and tracker blocker
Enable third parties cokkies. -
it is already a confirmed problem. that is why there are extensions that try to address it.
-
@TsunamiZ Tried trouble shotting?
-
yes, of course.

on that page, in the "overview" description, when you click "see more", there is a specific mention of a problem with vivaldi that contributes to the slowness. maybe the vivaldi devs can try to fix that part, at least.
