Is there an SMTP problem?

no connection to smtp.vivaldi.net, timeout
"invalid root certificate, identity cannot be verified"
Those would appear to be 2 unrelated issues, as a certificate problem would not normally present as a timeout.
The certificate error would indicate that your phone lacks the relevant root certificate. The certificate chain for
smtp.vivaldi.net
is as follows:CN = smtp.vivaldi.net
C = US, O = Let's Encrypt, CN = R3
O = Digital Signature Trust Co., CN = DST Root CA X3
Thus your phone apparently does not have the
DST Root CA X3
certificate installed, which would also result in a vast number of websites not working (eg. anything signed by Let's Encrypt). I can't offer much advice other than to make sure your phone has all relevant OS updates installed.Finally, the DNSSEC report you have posted a screenshot of is unrelated to SSL certification, and is exactly the result I would expect to see, as we do not use DNSSEC on our domains.

@boruta
I confirm. I have had this problem for a few days now. mail client (none) works with vivaldi mail. in order to check (send / read) e-mail you have to enter the account. I have (and had) correct all the settings -
@thomasp
I have the same problem on all my devices so it's not a problem with his phone. -
@boruta mam dokładnie tak samo. maile ze wszystkich innych miejsc dochodzą i mogę na nie odpowiadać, tylko te z i do vivaldiego nie chcą dojść i nie można na nie odpowiedzieć.
-
@tutti Do you get a certificate error, a timeout, or something else?
-
@thomasp
TLS handshake failed
ERR_CONNECTION_CLOSED
or the waiting wheel is just spinning, spinning and spinning and no effect -
@tutti and @boruta are you by any chance on the same ISP?
-
Also, to aid debugging, if either of you have access to a linux command-line, please try running the following commands:
traceroute smtp.vivaldi.net
openssl s_client -connect smtp.vivaldi.net:465 -quiet
-
Also, please try:
nslookup -debug smtp.vivaldi.net
to try to find out where you are getting served the wrong IP address from. -
@boruta It certainly seems like your router (lan.home, 192.168.1.1) is giving you the wrong IP address for
smtp.vivaldi.net
. Where it is getting that from, I couldn't say for sure, but it is possible that it comes from your ISP. The incorrect IP address you are getting forsmtp.vivaldi.net
(195.116.107.125
) belongs to Orange Polska, so I'd definitely suspect them. As @Gwen-Dragon says, changing your router to use those8.8.8.8
or1.1.1.1
for DNS would at least work around the problem, but you should probably also contact your ISP and ask them why they are doing this. -
@boruta

@boruta
A podpowiesz, jak to zrobić? Jestem kompletną nogą jeśli chodzi o takie sprawy. I jak coś nie działa to się gubię -
@boruta
helped halfway. I can add several accounts to the mail panel in vivaldi, but still different mail clients cannot send mail from accounts on vivaldi, they can receive it but not send -
@Gwen-Dragon said in Is there an SMTP problem?:
Which mail client can not send with a Vivaldi account? Please elaborate, what does not work?

Sorry I haven't been back for a while, but life
Having read through this thread, I tried pinging smtp.vivaldi.net and was given the address 81.99.162.48 if I do nslookup smtp.vivaldi.net 8.8.8.8 I get 31.209.137.12.If I add the smtp server as 31.209.137.12 in Thunderbird, once I confirm the exception, mail goes through fine.
I suspect the hard-coded DNS server in my Virgin Media router has a bad address. I'll raise this with Virgin Media support.
Thanks all for the help so far.

It turns out that my ISP's internet safety software seems to be blocking the SMTP server. When I disable web safe and parental controls, I can use the smtp server again, and doing nslookup smtp.vivaldi.net now gives 31.209.137.12
I tried to use the web form to indicate that this site was genuine and safe, but the form only allows URLs not SMTP.
So, as I wasn't relying on my ISP for my internet safety, I'm fine for now.
Thanks all
