Woot woot woot -- solved it!
Excerpt from my amended Conky config:
own_window = true, own_window_transparent = true, own_window_colour = '000000', own_window_argb_visual = true, own_window_argb_value = 168, -- guigirl 21/6/22: -- UNTIL Plasma 5.25.0, OWT of 'normal' worked well ['desktop' was NFG coz everytime i clicked the Plasma Desktop, the Conkies vanished], & OWH including 'skip_taskbar,skip_pager' successfully excluded Conky from Plasma Panel's Task Manager, & from Plasma Desktop Effect's Present Windows & Desktop Grid. -- FROM Plasma 5.25.0, OWT of 'dock' is necessary instead, otherwise despite the ongoing OWH, the Conky undesirably appears in Overview, Present Windows & Desktop Grid [ie, changing 'normal' to 'dock' preserves the desirable old behaviour]. -- Using 'override' also successfully now excludes Conky from Plasma Panel's Task Manager, & from Plasma Desktop Effect's Overview, Present Windows & Desktop Grid, BUT is NFG coz said Conky now remains on top of all other windows. -- Woohoo. own_window_type = 'dock', own_window_hints = 'undecorated,below,sticky,skip_taskbar,skip_pager',
Edited.
// Confirmed solved in both Wayland and X11 Plasma sessions. -
@guigirl good for you . dock in my case starts in "focused & on top" mode though, which is not suitable for me. With override I lose the transparency.

here you go KDE Plasma 5.25.1, Bugfix Release for June
Tuesday, 21 June 2022. Today KDE releases a bugfix update to KDE Plasma 5, versioned 5.25.1.
I told you, without proper sources, his "info" you quoted was just...
/added: and in the repos too
-
@guigirl So I updated the stuff at that time and checked again that resizable thingy which is not there again, then I had that crazy idea to put your screenshot under the loop...
Then I searched in the adventures for KDE and found this:
I mean... not that I hadn't already suspected it
/added: so... it will take some time 'til we see it... ~mid-October.

@npro Geez i hate peeps wot RTFM.
Nice work indeed, onya!
Rather than research it properly like you, i dopily allowed myself to be seduced by my Neon Unstable VM. I falsely presumed that back when Arch Stable was still on 5.24.5 & awaiting 5.25.0, that said Neon would be on 5.25 already, so given that once it did indeed receive 5.25, at which time i found the menu was then resizable, i simply, but wrongly, assumed that this enhancement had come with Neon's 25 & that therefore once we got 25, our menu would also be better. I'm rather stunned to now learn that implicitly, Neon Unstable actually begins getting items from 26 even when Arch was still in the end-days of 24. So, [parts of] Neon roll faster than Arch! -
Yet another fabbo buntu testimonial. Snicker, snort, cackle...
Peeps just keep on installing it, yet still somehow always seem amazed when they experience its
Coefficient of Shyteness
. -
@guigirl said in Arching Vivaldifarians.:
So, [parts of] Neon roll faster than Arch!
well you can't compare Arch to KDE Neon's unstable/testing/dev branches as they are the actual dev & testing ground where anything can happen, that is not exactly the same thing with "rolling", the "normal" edition with officially released software should be on 5.25.1 just like Arch.
-
@npro said in Arching Vivaldifarians.:

Yep, ofc you're correct, & this is a point i fear i'd overlooked back when i chose to create a VM for Neon Unstable. Indeed, i suspect that pretty soon i might just zap this VM, coz it's actually not much use in helping me play with features/fixes just around the corner from us in Arch.
Plus, ofc, another annihilated buntu, is the best kind of buntu -- Shirley!

Oh btw, wrt alternative App Menus / Launchers https://store.kde.org/p/1317546 / https://gitlab.com/nwwdles/plasma-kickoff-grid. I stayed up extra late last night, erm, this morning, testing this, & intend to use it til 26. Though this one also is supposed to be resizeable by dragging, that does not work for me, but it does work via dialling up or down its WxH in its Settings. Is not ideal [coz it only partly auto-cascades on hover], but otoh i've finessed a very usable Favourites pane.

@guigirl I'd say do the qt5-base forced upgrade to 5.15.4 and let's see what happens ( I'd suspect nothing really bad, except for some qt5 apps not functioning, worst case sddm doesn't start, because
qt5-declarative
would be on an older version ) -
@npro Heehee, oh whoops, you took it seriously [meaning, that i was posting for help]? I was only posting it out of genuine amusement, as i thought it was quite funny [given i remember so many TW dependency-hell scenarios during that intensive 5 months]. Re this VM, i was actually gonna wait a few days then retry, presuming that by then the devs might have sorted out their repos & pkg versions. However if not, i'm happy to do your idea then let you know.
Why do i do these crazy things?
-
@guigirl No, I have just proposed some additional spice to make things more amuseable until you completely break it, which is inevitable anyway

Hate Poettering
^ (Hate systemd
+hate microsoft
)] = nirvana.
