Vivaldi Android - slow on Samsung TabA 2017
-
As much as i would like to like Vivaldi on Android, it is just as slow to browse as Firefox.
Won't talk about Vivaldi's latest snapshot (pages don't even download). So far, Brave, Opera and Samsung's browser are among the top, fastest to browse.
What gives Vivaldi?
-(for the record, Vivaldi desktop on Win10 is slower to startup (like Firefox) than most others (Slimjet, Brave, Edge and Opera - but browsing speed is good).
-
@danielson I cannot confirm this. Vivaldi is very fast on my smartphone, definitely not slower than Opera.
-
Just so happens that i also have a Samsung Android A50S phone.
Installed Vivaldi on it just now (without syncing) and seems to be just as fast as Opera.
Same wireless connection as the Samsung tablet.
Vivaldi on the tablet is fresh install.
So, go figure why. -
Guys, gals... don't know what to say!
What i posted was seen here over the last few days.
Just now, re-installed Vivaldi Snapshot and it works!
And Vivaldi stable works better than ever (not sure if as fast as Opera yet though)! Was tempted in deleting this post, but it wouldn't be fair to those who read or replied.
Suffice it to complain that things get fixed up?
Anyhow, if mod. deems it better to delete this thread, so be it and my apologies.

Well, maybe i'm not as "crazy" as i thought i was.
Just now, as it happens often, checking and clicking on articles appearing in Google Go never "appear" in either Vivaldi stable or snapshot. You can see the link on the tab, but the page never loads.
Opera had no problems, loading the page almost instantly.
This is the recurring issue that should have put in the first post.
-
I just can't wrap my head around this one.
This a.m., opened "Google Go" as usual, clicked on the first article to open in Vivaldi (tried Snapshot and stable) and (even if the article logo showed up on the tab) it just simply did not want to download.
So, went over again, to have the article open up in Opera (could have tested with Brave too), and it came in practically instantly (while still not downloading in Vivaldi, even after a few more attempts).
So, a few minutes later, the same article finally loaded in both versions of Vivaldi! Brrrr!!
Is Google playing tricks with my head?! -
@danielson - extra note to previous post: even manually typing in urls failed at both Vivaldi versions.

Google Go
I installed Google Go to be able to understand the problem.
But links are then opened within the app.
Google Go seems to be a standalone browser.
In that respect, I don't really understand your concern yet. -
@Dancer18 - good point!
Checking within "Google Go" settings (which i have never done before), "open web page in the app" has option to enable this - but alas! ticking this option does not work for me! That is to say, it can't or doesn't want to be enabled!
This of course explains why it always asks to choose which browser to open the article with.
Think I have this Google Go thing resolved.
Had to enable Google sync in the Chrome browser.
No more spying issues to worry about...To be continued...
Will surf again tomorrow with Vivaldi versions to see if they surf well as expected and report here. -

-
@balachandarsmr Oh I see. Thank you.
In my case I have already decided not to use google and chrome. I checked it only bc of this thread and have google go already deinstalled again. -

If you set open web pages in the app and having chrome installed on your device all Google go pages will open in chrome custom tab. i.e. chrome functions as webview. If you don't set "open web page in the app" Google go links will open in external browser of your choice.
-
@balachandarsmr - exactly!
I'll do that check tomorrow as well.
Uncheck "web page in the app" and see if Vivaldi will open links as expected. -
@balachandarsmr - as posted previously, "open web page in the app" would not work unless sync enabled in Google Chrome. Clicking on that option was impossible to turn off or on.
So, back to report on how things went this a.m.
Disabling "open web page in the app" offered option to open links in other browsers.
Vivaldi stable has no problem opening links.
Vivaldi snapshot shows page title in tab icon but fails to download pages.
In fact, although it shows page titles to any typed in url, displaying url icon, it still fails to bring in the pages.
Brave nightly does as good as Vivaldi stable.
Opera Touch is still the fastest (links from Google Go as well as typed in urls). -
Also cannot confirm.
Vivaldi is just as quick to start up and render pages as FF (regular or Nightly) or the built in browser, Silk. Have not tried any other browsers.Using the latest Stable version on an Amazon Kindle Fire 8" (2018 edition, Android 9.something)

Brave, Vivaldi, opera, chrome uses blink rendering engine. So browsing speed is same on these browsers.
-
@balachandarsmr - true.
That's the way it should be.
I would be lying if i said Edge wasn't the fastest on Windows10.
Won't go there, 'cause i think Vivaldi is the best overall. Will take another spin on the Samsung Android tablet this a.m. and report.
Have a winter storm on the move, so hopefully that won't impact.
-
Storm is on its way...
Vivaldi snapshot was unbearable this a.m.
Had a glimmer of hope, typed in a few sites but all that was coming through was a partial picture of the page. As if, still in dial up days (or daze?). Pages never showed after 1 min.
Vivaldi stable was good, but pages are slow coming through compared to Brave and Opera (still the fastest).Maybe my Samsung tablet just doesn't like Vivaldi?
-
Last week, after experiencing unbearable speed on Vivaldi stable and nothing showing at all on Snapshot, i decided to remove both and wait a while, content with Brave.
Lo and behold, this a.m., inspired to take another shot at the present Snapshot (ha!), it performed like a hockey slapshot, speeding out on the virtual ice surface like a bolt of lightning!!
:face_savouring_delicious_food:
Just don't know what to say or think anymore... but won't complain if it keeps up this way!
-
Not long after, was having same problems.
Then i noticed the tablet could not flip view to horizontal mode anymore.
So, i figured there had to be a conflict with the apps installed (usually about 20 or so).
So, did fresh install.
After more than 3 days of testing,
Horizontal view is still back and Vivaldi is behaving well as expected.
Now i check after each "new" app. i install. -
