Stabilization – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 2115.31
-
@Gwen-Dragon I cannot get them to open at all. Navigation is enabled and works fine, but Enter does nothing.
-
@Pesala Only
Enter
works fine when nothing is focused. This has been around for quite some time, but I'm not sure if it's reported. -
@Gwen-Dragon What was the shortcut for this? If
Ctl-Enter
, I can confirm the bug. -
@potmeklecbohdan I don't know what that even means.
Spatial navigation focuses links with a selection rectangle. Then Enter does nothing.
Also, if the page is scrolled, the rectangle does not move with the page. I selected @Gwen-Dragon using spatial navigation then pressed the cursor keys a few times to scroll the page.
-
@Pesala There's a difference between SN focus & page focus. E.g. when you upvote a post here, the button stays focused & even after moving SN focus a few times,
Enter
still acts as if you clicked the upvote button. -
@pathduck: They're migrating south during winter.
-
@Gwen-Dragon In the meantime you can try my [WIP] userJS for this forum at least
It's adjusted for me though.
-
@potmeklecbohdan @Gwen-Dragon I have given up on Vivaldi Spatial Navigation, it's been neglected for far too long. Which is sad, as it's one of the features that got me to Vivaldi in the first place.
I use an old and no longer updated extension that I've modified a bit to use standard Shift/Ctrl-Enter for opening tabs:
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/spatial-navigation/gogippjaikoijhcdcioeajgpmlmchkba -
@Pathduck no :disappointed_but_relieved_face:
(I don't want to use an extension)
-
@npro Well, it contains a single JS file, that's all. So it might be possible to just install it as a User JS, but I've never tried. Someone with JS skills should take a look at it.
-
@ayespy: Yes, I understand that the option is still not available so that you can continue to pressure Google.
Have you been able to contact them about this issue in any way? And is there some way that the us (users) can also pressure them?
-
@hadden89: Yes, I am aware of that. It's a nuissance, but at least there would be an option.
Right now, even if I choose to manual edit the details of an IMAP account I'm redirected to Google's OAuth 2.0 login screen. I'd like to have the option to override that behavior and use a "legacy" authentication method.

Thanks a lot for the recent open new tab fix!
Opening a new related tab as a tab stack works correctly now and sets its position at the correct place.
Previously, whenever I opened a new related tab in a stack, the new tab was positioned at the very end in the tab order.
Therefore, cycling tabs didn't work correctly for stacks.
A workaround was to manually reorder the tab stack with CTRL + Shift + page up or down. This was one of my usability issues I had with Vivaldi for a few years since I started using it and hoped for a fix for it (bug was already reported).
Thanks again to everyone who worked on this and the Vivaldi Team!
I'm glad that this browser gets better and better over the time and that you can recommend it without any worries. -
Known issues
Internal chrome-extension URL flashes before loading internal pages (VB-74678)Only one known issue?
What gets into that list?Because there is at least VB-74542 related to the still persisting issue with new tab location.
New tab is still open at the end of list despite "Next to Active" setting.
And new tab is not shown at all in the Window panel in some conditions. (Active tab indicator also doesn't switch on tab change. The panel only updates on some tab close.) -
@Killy-MXI Please bro, in the last days you have repeated that at least 20 times, what happens when everyone starts posting his/her bugs over and over again?
-
@npro I will uninstall Vivaldi and won't bother anyone anymore. Is it better?
That's not my problem Vivaldi team avoid any public issue tracking solutions and we have no idea what's going on. (Well, it is actually my problem now, because it is me who can't use the browser for so long.)
Even if I report a bug and get a ticket number - that's all, I won't get anything from that number unless I will be posting it around here again. The issue might be closed based on someone else's ticket and I will not know. The ticked might be closed without fixing the issue, as we have already seen with VB-74396, which is specific to tabs issue. No trust.
When there is a wall between you and a company, it starts to feel like the only way to get things working is a public outcry...
I just realized I should probably switch to the stable version. But I don't understand why - for years the beta build was stable enough. Bugs of this scale didn't exist for this long.
And I'm not sure whether my profiles (personas) data will transfer safely to an older version.
Writing from Microsoft Edge.
-
@Killy-MXI You can ask on bugs (with VB-xxx) here.
-
@Killy-MXI Backporting profiles is never recommend-able but using stable always been a safer choice.
"Snapshots quality" is never been totally consistent.
There are good builds, ok builds and midly annoying builds.
The "secret" is to keep more versions: a stable, a conservative snapshot ("last working vivaldi") and the latest one. But I understand is annoying to do, especially if you don't sync them and rely on profiles.
I'm too used on One Install = One profile for convenience.
Asking often - even few times a week - is ok, but asking every day won't speed the fixing. The team is small and the priority was already chosen after dev start to check the issue and some tests on that happen, which could require a few of weeks. I guess the issue was closed because was merged on another issue, but can't assure on that, not being an internal.
About more transparency on reported bugs statuses... is always on discussions and I also hope it'll improve. But I'll also like some form of summary public bug tracker soon or later, as I know the new tab bug as VB-73739 for example -
@guigirl I think is quite safe when the chromium version is the same between snap&stable, cherry picking only what you really need. But better avoid this route, when possible.

I am on 3.5.2115.21 Snapshot, but I guess the problem is still in .31.
On the first Vivaldi launch the focus is not on the first dial.
On Vivaldi Stable there is no such a problem:
