Solved Mark as Spam has no effect {POP3, IMAP}
-
Vivaldi 3.5.2115.4 (Official Build) (64-bit) on Linux (Fedora).
-
OK, I think I've found the problem:
- Mark Message as Spam doesn't work for POP3 mail yet.
- Mark Message as Spam only works for IMAP mail if there is an existing "Spam" folder on the server.
Using IMAP, and pre-creating a Spam IMAP folder on the server, and it works!
-
@Gwen-Dragon I would expect it to mark the message as Spam, so that it would be hidden from folders not showing spam, and so it would appear in the Spam folder.
Neither the button nor the context-menu action does this.
-
@Fonant If you check the buttons above the message list, is Show Junk (trash can with an X on it) highlighted? If it is then it will still show Spam messages in the mail folder.
Also, do you see any other folders besides Spam under All Messages in the Mail Panel? -
@jane-n Yes, folder filters are working as expected. The "Mark as Spam" action doesn't do anything, so nothing ever appears in the Spam view, and toggling the "show spam" filter does nothing because none of the messages are marked as spam.
It's a POP3 mail account, perhaps Spam doesn't work for that yet?
-
@Gwen-Dragon Nope. "Mark as Spam" also doing nothing for IMAP accounts.
Tried turning SElinux off, too, no change.
-
Just want to say this is a minor niggle, the fact that I can play with M3 is so exciting!!
Thank you to everyone who helped make this happen!

@Gwen-Dragon Doesn't work for IMAP or POP3 here. Perhaps a Linux-specific bug.
-
@Gwen-Dragon My own mail server (uses Dovecot for POP3/IMAP, running on CentOS). Although POP3 downloads and handles mail locally, so the server doesn't have any involvement when I click on the Spam button.
-
If I can help with debugging, do let me know. I have IT expertise and have already had a poke around in the new Mail storage directories and SQLite databases.

@Gwen-Dragon Marking a message as spam locally doesn't involve the POP3 mail server. There won't/can't be anything in the server logs.
Step by step of what I do:
- Click the "Mark Message as Spam" button on any downloaded message in Vivaldi Mail.
That's it. Nothing happens.
I would expect the message to be marked as spam, locally. Presumably this is done by changing a flag in the messages database? What is the messages database filename? I can see the Contacts database (SQLite) and the Mail storage folders.

@Gwen-Dragon Yes, "Mark Message as Spam" does nothing. I'll try using Windows 10 instead of Linux in a bit.
I've tried with messages from a POP3 account and from an IMAP account. There is no change in flags, no moving of the message to the Spam folder locally, and the message still appears in views that are set to not show spam.
