Blocking specific websites
-
I am wondering why browsers have no option for blocking websites and one has to download a specific add-on to achieve that. It seems like an easy enough extension which provides also safety from giving some access to third parties. This can be also in the lines of parental control, although I understand this expression may trigger some
.

@artnoage It is an old feature request, but has no votes at all yet. You can be the first.

Because the purpose of a web browser is to access web sites, not block them?
But you can already block requests using the Vivaldi tracker and ad blocking. You just need to create your own custom list and load it in Manage Sources.
Using such functions as a parental block won't work though, any kid will figure out how to disable the block in no time

@Pathduck Or, worse, they will switch to another browser without parental control
@artnoage For ""parental control"" these two list could be fine
https://block.energized.pro/basic/formats/filter
(will block gambling sites)
https://block.energized.pro/porn/formats/filter
(will blocksites).
But a browser solution is not effective as you simply need to disable it or switch.
You should use a dedicated software - not even an extension - loading the lists and hope "controlled" sites are not visited in a different way (as a mobile or a device which is not configured to lock them) -

Well yeah, coz kids need something else to do to pass the time, seeing as how there's no VCRs around anymore to have to program for their parents.

@Steffie Nowadays, most kids seem to use "Parental Control" to block their parents accessing stuff!

@TbGbe I did it few times to protect them from very bad quality fictions

Oh, you mean they weren't just "wildlife documentaries"?
