Vivaldi constant freezing

That's good news, considering Vivaldi is closing in on Beta 3, probably this month I'm guessing. So it'd be great if this issue was fixed by then.

Opera has just fixed this issue on freezing/crashing in Windows 10, so it looks like it was a Chromium problem, but I don't know if they've released this fix to the Chromium code or their own. Probably their own, but I hope it isn't so. Opera Beta has it, and now it just released to their stable channel as well, so I'm able to enjoy that on Opera 35, and it hasn't froze or crashed once.

It's been four years and I still have the freezing issue on windows 10. Disabling all the addons doesn't help either. Single tab or multi it freezes frequently. Is there any way I can dig in this issue more?

Some user report freezing with latest version if they use black/dark theme, check with default. Check with a guest profile or create a new for testing.
Vivaldi never freeze for me since 5 years, Windows, Linux on different hardware but I don´t use extensions and third party anti virus software on Windows.
Avast make big problems since years, for example.

@mib2berlin I have tested with new profile & all other options are suggested by vivaldi but didn't help.

I can confirm, since the latest update Vivaldi is freezing when I open YouTube. This only happens if I use the dark theme or black as a color. For now I',m using the theme "Vivaldi" and everything works fine.

My advice for anyone who uses the dark theme and can't change settings because it freezes instantly.
Close Vivialdi, as soon as it starts loading try to close the tab YouTube or the page which causes the freeze, you have to be really fast. Then use the Theme "Vivaldi".

I have started to use Vivaldi theme. I will test for few days. Once I'm confirm that the problem is with the dark mode. I will report a bug.
@Gwen-Dragon What does it mean by "This is a new issue, but already known to developers and is investigated."?
If it's already known to developers why should I report a bug?

@Gwen-Dragon version 3.6.2165.36 release note refers that the dark mode freezing issue has been resolved, but it seem that Vivaldi is freezing brutally on Facebook's Dark mode. It's not happening with facebook's white mode.
I wanted to know is this bug known to developers or I should report a bug?

Just started using Vivaldi and I'm getting it freezing, often on Youtube but haven't used it enough to be sure where and when yet. If this has been going on as long as this thread suggests I can't see me continuing the experiment with it.

Hi, this happen for some user randomly, for me only on a Linux box with Intel iGPU UHD 620.
All my other Windows 11 and Linux install are working fine.
A restart of Vivaldi should fix this immediately, I know this is a bad workaround but we have a confirmed bug report VB-91427.
These issues are hard to fix, happen for some user sometimes.

Vivaldi keeps freezing for me as well. Its getting a bit frustrating having to force end Vivaldi from the Task Manager.

It happens when the browser is idle for awhile.

This didn't happen to me when I was using Google Chrome, and I had the same amount of tabs then. (I have about 200 tabs open distributed in different workspaces - in Google Chrome, I use different profiles to organize the tabs)

Honestly, I hope this gets fixed SOON, otherwise, this just won't work despite its numerous lovable features.

If Vivaldi's team is able to read this, pls feel free to contact me if there's any way I can help. I would really love it if this wasn't an issue anymore.

The other bugs I can live with, even the speed issues (though I haven't been able to use it on my PC yet) - but if Vivaldi keeps freezing, it will just be too cumbersome.

Hi, this thread is a Year old and the bug VB-91427 is closed for a long time.
What do you mean with "idle for a while"?
This never happen again after Vivaldi 6.2 to me, now I have a 500 tab session running for hours or days idle without freeze.
Please wait a bit if other users can reproduce this with Vivaldi 6.8.
I will start a test now running Vivaldi idle for at least 8 hours.

I finished my test now after ~ 9 hours, no freeze.
Vivaldi 6.8.3381.46, Windows 11, Ryzen 7 specs in my signature.
I use no third party security, firewall or cleaning software.

Hi and thank you but we need more information.
How long it is idle, which extensions do you use and so forth.
For example a user install OneTab extension and Vivaldi need 20 minutes to respond.
In my experience Chrome extensions cause 80% of all issues in Vivaldi.

You can get a list of your extensions, open vivaldi://system and expand the extension row.
Or make a screen shot of the extension page, use page zoom if they not fit.

I will try using my PC as well around the next week or two. It just so happens I'm stuck at my Dell laptop this week. But I only brought up the question because I switched from Google Chrome, and that wasn't freezing for me there at all.

Thanks for the list, the reason why I ask for extensions is Chrome extensions are for Chrome and some can really cause strange errors in Vivaldi.
For example a user report lately the OneTab extension block Vivaldi to start at all, the user stuck with a non working browser.
As far as I can see you don't use the same extensions anyway.
The next candidate is security software, working flawlessly with Chrome, Edge but not with Vivaldi.
Do you use one except Defender?

I dont use any other security software besides Defender.

I noticed that in Task Manager, the Memory Usage seems to go up much faster compared to when I was using Chrome before (sometimes it ends up 97-100%)

The issue could just be in my end. I'll give an update once I am able to test Vivaldi with the same amount of tabs & workspaces in my PC as well.
