Vivaldi 3.4 RC 1 – Vivaldi Desktop Browser snapshot 2066.64/65

@Ruarí
Has this new game replaced the aging version of the dino game found invivaldi://dino
or when no internet connection is available?P.S. I’m not near my computer right now, and nor do I have android so I can’t test it, hence me asking.EDIT
Yeah, I gave it a try, so you can ignore this comment. -
@Hadden89 I understand that, but if the developers were focused on designing an innovative browser, they would have no interest in adding a trivial game. Children who want to play Super Mario, Snake, or Tetris, can soon add a bookmark or web panel.
If they want to support the startup company just because it is Icelandic, they could just add a default bookmark for Porcelain Fortress to the start page. Building the game into the browser so that users have to disable it in settings is just annoying to the 99.9% of users who will not be interested in it.
-
@pesala: There are other feature changes in 3.4 as you know, e.g. the periodic timer, editable context menus, links in menus… Those were developed by our own devs. As pointed out by others the dev work here is done by Porcelain Fortress, so it does not cost us much in terms of developer time. Yes we could have linked to an online version but 1) Bundling means it works offline (and having an offline game to kill time is nice) 2) It makes it Vivaldi exclusive. Also like with any feature in the browser, if you don't like it, you do not have to use it. It's fine, as we have always said, this is your browser but it seems like other here do like this and it is their browser to, so let them enjoy it.

It makes Vivaldi look cheap.
-
@pesala: Its a shame that is your opinion but I will respectfully disagree.
[EDIT] Also, remember there are actually other offline playable games in browsers. You might not have thought about this fact because theirs are so basic. The difference with ours is that it is more polished and IMHO just a better (more fun) game. I certainly wouldn't say it looks cheap when comparing to the competition, quite the contrary.

I've been playing the game for a while (I had test build access) and I have to say it's a well polished game, with a good design.
The network error endless runner game felt cheap. This one feels high quality, and I can tell a lot of effort has gone into it.

i Love Vivaldi Browser
-
So, Vivaldia... Vivaldi Technology's foray into the video game publishing industry perhaps?
It is indeed quite polished, and having tried it out, I wouldn't miss
vivaldi://dino
that much anymore.EDIT
Just a small critique, give us a favicon, please!
EDIT 2
The soundtrack doesn't seem to always loop. At some point it just stops for a few seconds before starting over again. -
@pesala: actually i support @pesala opinion and yes it makes vivaldi look stupid and childish remove it pls !! and focus on innovative and productive features that can actually make difference and make vivaldi easier to use and has it's own ideas ,, i know you're doing your best but distracting yourselves by developing a game that no one is interested in is unfortunate with my all respect
-
@pesala, @mizouniihichem You're all making a big deal out of nothing, right click on the icon, disable it, done, you don't have to bother about it again.
-
@mizouniihichem Yay! & while you're at it, pls also remove tabs, speed dial, address & search bars & settings. Not sure if Vivaldi should be able to display web pages…
(A little more appropriate version of this would be:
Yay! & while you're at it, pls also remove panels, tab tiling, SD & window bg images &c
)
-
I was wondering what made it so hard to play — can we please get configurable controls? I’m missing my good ol’
hjkl
. How can anyone lay their fingers down in several rows?
I’m not a gamer it seems…
-
@mizouniihichem No plans to remove it but don't worry, if another comes asking us to remove a feature you like, we won't do that either.
-
@iAN-CooG First impressions are a big deal. I already disabled it, but every new user who downloads Vivaldi will wonder why this was included. Easter Eggs that nobody sees and needs to care about do not detract from the Vivaldi brand.
-
Does this mean we can list vivaldi in Steam now?
-
@LonM Not a bad idea actually It and Vivaldia with Vivaldi as the publisher
-
@mizouniihichem how about translating the game to your language instead of "vocalizing" the thumbs up button? That would be more helpful and meaningful to Vivaldi if you care about it.
-
@Pesala Why so grumpy? What you are so upset about is called "promo" and guess what, when it's going to be in the news many people will download Vivaldi out of plain curiosity and maybe they will like Vivaldi and discover its other features as well and use it, that's far better than nobody downloading your browser because of some "stupid*" customizing tab entries gimmicks, right? Marketing basics 0 1. Plus it's something light-hearted, non intrusive and of a certain quality, not the usual heavy corporate spam.
Also it's not my business in what manner and style you want to communicate with the developers, but since other people can see what you are writing and can be offended, insulted and hurt by your derogatory attitude against games please refrain next time from expressions like "a stupid* game", "those who want to waste their time", "Children who want to play Super Mario, Snake, or Tetris" .

Cookies and Kudos to the first who manages to give Vivaldia infinite lives (Trainer++ mode), because it's just too bloody hard for me :face_with_open_mouth_cold_sweat:
