Vivaldi freezing while scrolling
-
Hi,
I have some problems with freezes while using Vivaldi on Android. These freezes seem to be a rendering issue: for example, when I scroll through a page (e.g. Google search results) the image stops updating and I cannot click any links. When I go to the home screen and reopen Vivaldi, everything works again as normal. Even the scroll position is the one I would expect.
This happened to me in my Redmi Note 3 Pro and my Fairphone 3. It did not happen on a Mi Note 10. So I think it could be related to the CPU as both phones where it does not work have a relative old CPU with 1.8 GhZIs someone else having this issue?
Thank you

I've seen similar behavior, occasionally, in all the Chromium-based browsers I've used with any regularity. I typically notice the freeze when trying to scroll, and it seems to happen more frequently when zoomed in. Instead of restarting though, I just refresh the page and everything works again.
I'm not certain what you've described is the same thing, but what I'm talking about I used to experience when I used Chrome a lot prior to Vivaldi Android, and now it happens in Vivaldi Android every so often to me. That's why I haven't taken the time to write up a report about it, because I got into the habit of just refreshing in Chrome.
If refreshing fixes it for you, maybe it's the same issue. Regardless if it is or isn't, refreshing is certainly a better workaround than restarting, so try that. I also don't have a consistent repro. So if you do have a way to consistently reproduce the issue, please Report a bug in Vivaldi Android.

@BoneTone Well, the main difference I could figure out is that you are able to refresh the page. In my case, refreshing does not do anything.
But I do not see a way to reproduce this as it happens only from time to time. I do not have to do a full restart by the way, minimizing and maximizing Vivaldi is sufficient, I do not have to kill the process. Also switching tasks does the job (Just open the task switcher and select Vivaldi again).
I have created a bug report and added a video of that behaviour. -
My Xiaomi Mi 9 also had problems with scroll lags. It helped me to change the #enable-surface-control flag in vivaldi://flags to disable. I'm not sure if the author of the topic has the same problem, but maybe someone it will help too. I created a bug report VAB-2623
By the way, I don't understand what this flag does, but it helps in all other chromium based browsers too. I'm really worried that it might be removed with engine updates.

Something related with the buffers, yes.
