Slow Loading of Forum
-
@Gwen-Dragon You will never see the issue if you're following the above link from this forum thread as the forum threads are already cached.
I launch it from a Speed Dial, but you could use a bookmark. Try closing all tabs and the cache and restarting, then follow the bookmark link, or paste and go.
Still taking 11-12 seconds here on fast fibre-optic b/b.

@Pesala
Hi, checked again with paste and go after closing all tabs, clear cache > loading < 1 second.Cheers, mib
-
@Pesala I likewise have such a link. Takes 1s or less to load. 25MB DSL line.
-
I still have the same problem. I wonder if it is due to Malwarebytes? I recently upgraded the Free version, and when one does that one gets a free fourteen day trial of the Premium version, which performs real-time scans. The free version only scans when you tell it to.
I have disabled all of the Real-Time Protection. Perhaps that will fix the slow forum loading issue.
-
I’ve tried with a completely new
--user-data-dir
& passing the URL from the command line, & including all the initial loading of V (+2s from start, likely slowing down loading of the page) it took ~5s. -
@Pesala said in Slow Loading of Forum:
which performs real-time scans.
That's a trouble sign, right there.
-
@Ayespy Well, it has not made any difference. Forum loading is still slow after I closed the tab and did something else for a while.
-
Other forums load just fine. Only Vivaldi.net is very slow.
-
@Pesala Can't reproduce this on multiple machines, multiple-multiple installs. Your environment must be different from mine.
-
I still see this issue on the Snapshot after my Malwarebytes premier edition free trial expired. So no real-time scanning.
No slow loading in Stable, but sometimes slow in Snapshot.
-
I still see this issue with the latest Snapshot.
I have not, so far, been able to reproduce it with the latest Stable.
-
@Pesala Totally weird. All of mine are just fast.
-
@Ayespy I just managed to reproduce it on stable.
- I watched a few YouTube videos
- I opened the speed dial to Vivaldi Features and it took multiple seconds to load.
-
Repeatable.
- Open the Vivaldi Features Link very slow to load
- Waited a few minutes while I did something else
- Opened the forum link. Again, very slow to load
- Click on the notifications bell icon. Again, very slow to load.
There is no problem If I am already active on the forum.
-
Also repeatable in the latest Stable version.
- Open this thread
- Watch YouTube videos for several minutes in another tab
- Switch back to this tab
- Click the recent link
The list of recent posts takes 10 seconds or so to load.
-
Neither the forum update, nor the latest Snapshot have solved this issue.
-
@Pesala I assume you've tested this in other browsers, and also in a clean profile?
What does devtools say in loading time? Anything specific taking a long time?
For me loading recent with Ctrl+F5:
Note that Recent will list recent in all categories unless they're set to Ignored. But I don't really notice much difference in a clean profile not logged in.
-
@Pesala I can’t reproduce this, tried on a clean profile.
-
No problem reproducing this with a Guest Profile.
- Opened a guest profile
- Opened this page
- Click on Recent which loaded quickly
- Opened a new tab and browsed on YouTube and BBC news for ten minutes or so
- Switched back to this tab and clicked on Recent again. It took about 11 seconds to load.
- Closed the guest profile and clicked on reply in this thread. Again, it took a while to respond and display the edit box.
Interesting that the load time is always the same, give or take. I display seconds on the Status Bar clock to do the timings.
-
@Pesala And what about other browsers? If it happens there as well, we can assume it's something on your system/network and not in Vivaldi.
I tried to leave the Recent tab open, read some news sites, watched a bit YT, maybe 15 mins. Then went back to the tab and clicked Recent to load it again.
Since this forum is very dynamic, all it does is make an XHR call to
https://forum.vivaldi.net/api/recent?_=1602276739960
Maybe your system has something blocking or delaying XHR calls?
It would help if you had Devtools open when reproducing and logging what happens in the Network tab.
