seems this w10 update causes problems -
I'm not having issues with Windows 10 May 2020 Update (version 2004). Maybe check for third-party security software (disable it or install Vivaldi in a clean Windows 10 install before installing that third-party software because they can conflict with the Windows kernel), or give us more details about your hardware and drivers.
Try to repair your Windows (there's a built-in tool called DISM for example).

@gonzo If SFC /scannow or DISM don't work, I can't help but suspect your installation source media is corrupted or compromised. Did you download Windows from an official Microsoft source or from another place with trusted untouched ISO?
The other possibility is a faulty HDD/SDD corrupting the data as it's installed (chkdsk can be used to check for errors and attempting to fix it by marking the bad blocks so they aren't used anymore).
Some users report finding viruses with Malwarebytes in the process of trying to fix the issue.
Summing up, I don't see a clear answer in the web to tell you what else to do.

Same problem here. Vivaldi crashs about a second after starting it. It happens on two systems:
- an existing Win 10 upgraded to version 2004
- a fresh installation of Win 10 2004

Hi all. I just had this same issue immediately after upgrading to Windows 10 Pro N version 2004. For me, the fix was to install/re-install the latest Windows Media Feature pack. I did this by going to Settings > Apps > Optional features (located on the "Apps & features" page) > Add Feature then typing "Media Feature Pack" (without quotes). Check the box then click Install. After install you will need to reboot your computer.
-
@RandomNameHere Thanks for sharing.
It seems that issue was resolved in a recent snapshot:
[Windows][Crash] Fails to start on 10 pro N edition if media pack is not install (VB-68691)It may or may not be the same issue affecting OP. Users affected can test the latest snapshot or wait until 3.3 is released as stable.
-
Not sure if this helps,
Has the OP had chromium or chrome installed and then removed them.?I noticed chromium used to not open on my linux system and it was caused by not cleaning out remnants of previous chromium browser.
It was fundamentally a profile issue..i don't use or have chromium installed now ,but not sure if this sheds light on issue.

@Gwen-Dragon If I run it as Administrator it DOES open. I set the shortcut to "open as administrator" and it seems to work fine that way.

@gonzo Did you resolve this issue? I have pretty much same here. Window frame pops up then goes away. Even in ADMIN mode
