Vivaldi introduces a full-page Notes Manager and configurable menus to its browser for computers
-
I've seen a couple of comments on this page about the first image that reflects "current events". I feel rather uncomfortable that Vivaldi takes a political stance and tries to ride the wave by posting that image. In my opinion, as browser dev one should be -apolitical- and not try to ride popular topics to earn quick reputation points by doing so. It's lame. Furthermore, not everyone agrees with a mob destroying property. By posting such an image, you indirectly encourage and approve the movement. I definitely do not. The lot of you won't agree with me - That's fine. But if this becomes a habit, I'll stop using Vivaldi. You guys really have to stay neutral. No social engineering of any kind please.
-
@sjudenim Can confirm. Disabled that flag and now notes panel height is fine.
-
@escorpiom Vivaldi shouldn't be "neutral", no company should be, nor is neutral in the real world, there's no such a thing as apolitical and there's a strong depoliticization process happening for someone to believe that. Life is political. Money entering Vivaldi or other company could be a result of racist exploitation systems and if one does nothing to change that it doesn't make it "neutral". Neutrality is the same as siding with the oppressing side. Or a company is expressly antiracist or it isn't worth my support/money.
So yeah we disagree fundamentally, diametrically. If Vivaldi isn't expressly antiracist I'm the one that's going to stop using Vivaldi.
So how do you expect Vivaldi to react to these opposite impositions, considering that I have the same rights as you? -
@Trinsec You can add any number of active links in the note itself.
-
@rluik: Sorry but it doesn't work that way. According to you, someone who is not expressly anti-racist is a racist. That's a bold statement and proves that any further reasonable discussion is pointless. You and the author of this blog post are helping to polarize society. It won't fundamentally change anything, it will only open the door to extremism from both sides. Violence, looting and rioting won't get us anywhere and I refuse to support any movement that instills a rebellion or promotes violence. Vivaldi really disappoints me in that regard.
-
Sorry, but I really wish you would give me what I WANT as opposed to what you mistakenly THINK I need. What I want is for things to be where they were in Firefox before they changed. Specifically:
-
I want an Addon bar AT THE BOTTOM, because that's where I put my Addon buttons.
-
I want greater freedom to customize the layout. Never underestimate our reliance on muscle memory. We want things to be where they were before.
-
I want a "find on page" button available at ALL times so I can search for a word with just ONE button push. (Not two clicks. Not three. ONE.)
-
I want an "Add Bookmark Here" button in each of my bookmark folders and subfolders.
Until a modern browser can give me those four things, I will stick with either Palemoon or Basilisk.
-
-
@Cannonfire You mistakenly think Vivaldi users want a Firefox pre-Quantum. No luck. Many Vivaldi users don't want a Firefox revival but they are expecting an Opera 12 replacement. That's Vivaldi primary goal.
-
@escorpiom said in Vivaldi introduces a full-page Notes Manager and configurable menus to its browser for computers:

Great. Extreme antiracism vs extreme racism, looks like an easy choice for the society.
Violence, looting and rioting won't get us anywhere
The current peace is no peace at all for the working class, specially for non-whites suffering additional racist violence everyday. Peace towards opressors won't get us anywhere and never did.
-
@escorpiom , being neutral between racism and anti-racism, is it being a little racist or a little anti-racist?
It has nothing to do with a certain political orientation, and well, if you do not like Vivaldi for taking an antiracist position, ask in the support of other browsers which of these supports white supremacy -
@escorpiom @rluik @Catweazle Please keep your political views out of this thread, this is about Vivaldi 3.1 release, go somewhere else expressing your politcal opinions, thank you all.
-
This post is deleted! -
@iAN-CooG , yes, to see if any mod can move the corresponding posts, or delete them, it will be better.
-
@Catweazle Better move than delete otherwise you'll see a thread of censorship
-
@Catweazle Delete, then another one will appear whining about seeing MLK generating a new discussion ad eternum. You can't escape political debate.
-
@catweazle: White supremacy? Why? Are you implying I'm a racist? Just for the record, my wife is black and we have two mulato daughters together. Am I still a racist then? What I don't like is browser devs riding the wave of populism topics and supporting violence and looting by doing so. It wasn't necessary to post that pic. It won't achieve anything, quite the contrary, it will help polarize society and help to give rise to extremism.
-
@ian-coog: Well, if the poster of this blog post opens with a picture that actually is politically motivated, yes then I'll react. This thread was started as such. Wouldn't it be easier to change that pic to something else that doesn't imply support for violence and looting?
-
@escorpiom Nope. As changing the picture will cause other people to complain it was removed.
-
@hadden89: Actually, that is a reasonable comment and I can agree with it.
I still feel that Vivaldi should avoid posting content that reflect x or y opinion in the feature. Sorry for not being on the same side of the fence. -
@rluik: Sure you can. Just don't post politically charged pictures and we never have to blabber about this again. Easy to escape.
-
@escorpiom You're not the first and won't be the last to come here asking for a supposed "neutrality" and recreate the discussion. Deleting it won't solve anything. Vivaldi's decision to post a screenshot of MLK article means they'll have to cope with this, positively so I hope.
