Import and export bookmarks
-
Yes we need it please
-
Dear Vivaldi - Team
Please at least implement the import & export of very simple HTML bookmark files.
This is very needed! Not just for flexibility - but also to be able to transfer bookmarks at all for users without a Vivaldi Account.
…Because a free product that's somehow still dependent on an external service isn't that free after all when it comes to user freedom. -
@NA0341 Vivaldi already imports and exports bookmarks.
-
Again: This is a feature request for the mobile version which does not support the import or export of bookmarks.
-
@NA0341 Ah.

This was asked for 3 years ago. Nothing yet. It ain't going to happen. They want your data. They suggest using sync - that is very complicated and means uploading all your data. I don't want ALL the same bookmarks on both devices anyway. They also want to make it hard for you to switch to another browser.
The only way for me to overcome this is to email a list of mobile bookmarks to my PC, then stop using Vivaldi on my mobile, then probably on my PC too so I can use the same browser on both.
-
@ChrisOfBristol Vivaldi literally does not want anyone's data. Writing import/export for bookmarks in Mobile is fraught. But eventually, it will happen. In the meantime, at least sync works. It does not mean "uploading all your data" (which, again, Vivaldi does not want and cannot use). Rather it is possible to limit sync, in settings, to Bookmarks only.
-
@Ayespy Too complicated and too late. I've already started moving my bookmarks.
-
@ChrisOfBristol You may do as you wish. But do not make false accusations about Vivaldi "wanting your data."
-
@Ayespy So why is uploading ones data the only way of doing this? I don't think you have a believable reason.
-
@ChrisOfBristol Sync requires data to reside on a server to work. There's no other way to do it in a distributed fashion (peer-to-peer is possible on a LAN) Device A has data you want on Device B, Device A uploads it, encrypted (so that no one, including Vivaldi can read it) to a sync server, Device B logs into the sync server and uses a decrypt password known only to you to download and decrypt the data so that Device B can use it too.
-
@Ayespy Why are you telling me this? I DO NOT want to use sync.
-
@ChrisOfBristol You asked.
First, of course, you put out the false claim that a) mobile import/export will never come, and that Vivaldi offers sync because they want your data.
Then you asked why uploading data is the only way to sync.
I chimed in initially to clarify: Mobil import/export will arrive at some point, and Vivaldi does not want your data.
-
@Ayespy
"you asked why uploading data is the only way to sync" Try reading my posts to see whether I have ever written that.Many other fancy utilities but no export from mobile. Laughable.
-
-
Where is the word "sync" in that sentence.
-
@ChrisOfBristol Where would you "upload" your data, if not to sync? Vivaldi never requires anyone to upload any data to anywhere - except if they want to sync.
-
I never wrote that I wanted to "upload" anything either.
Are you Russian? You are purposely misunderstanding what I write. This is turning into some sort of Soviet dystopia.
-
@ChrisOfBristol You asked a question that makes no sense outside of the context of sync, unless you know of some other reason "uploading one's data" might be a solution for importing or exporting bookmarks.
