High CPU {at BBC News page}
-
Just downloaded the latest version (2.11.1811.52) and have 1 tab open - the bbc news website -
Vivaldi is showing constant cpu usage of 5%
Close this and leave just a start page tab and cpu is back below 1%I've not seen behaviour like this in any other browser when visiting the bbc news
Is Vivaldi doing something odd? -
@wards999 5% is not much. For me, I often see 35% of CPU usage with one tab open, especially if a video is playing. My hardware is old and has an on-board graphics chip.
Specs: AMD A10-6800K, 8 Gb (WinSPRLevel = 5.9) on Win 10 64-bit 1909 build 18363.720 • Snapshot 2.12.1862.3 (64-bit)

Same, 25% CPU
-
OK, to be clear, I was using Windows Task Manager as an overall measure of CPU usage rather than the internal Vivaldi task manager.
The URL is:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/newsWhen I look at Windows Task Manager with Chrome, Opera, Edge and Vivaldi all with the same single tab open to the above URL Vivaldi is showing double the CPU usage of the other browsers.
I know 5% isn't high - just made me wonder what is going on...although it does appear to settle down to a more reasonable 1-2% after 5 or so minutes
-
The resource usage is 14-17.
a bit high -
In dev tools I have seen a lot of page requests blocked by Vivaldi (I don't have much idea and don't know if I have interpreted it correctly), maybe the reason for high CPU usage is caused by this.
-
I have also been getting high cpu usage on the BBC News site. I think the cause is the little red graphic that blinks on and off for their live, rolling news articles. If i use the dev tools to delete that element, the GPU Process will drop from ~12% cpu to ~2% cpu. And if i scroll the page to another blinking graphic, the gpu process will shoot up again.
Would appreciate it if someone has a suggestion to fix it on vivaldi side, or if we need to complain to the BBC.

@szech
Hi, I guess there no workaround from Vivaldi, kick the web developer of the BBC.
Keep in mind the task manage show the part of all threads on you CPU.
100% of a 8 thread CPU will show as 800%.
This is my system task manager with the BBC page open:Cheers, mib

My workaround is to use an adblocker to delete the offending element from the page. Problem solved!
That element is using css to do the animation.
Interestingly, the sport page uses svg but there is still fairly high gpu usage.If I go to the Guardian, their blinking elements are not causing the same level of resource usage.
