Minor update (3) for Vivaldi 2.11
-
@biguglyboy6 Yes please!
-
@Ruarí Ok Vivaldi… I didn't wanna do this but you've left me no choice »
I am now blocking update.vivaldi.com with my network filter.
Every time I lay back and watch a video in full-screen mode one of those update notifications pops up again and again …Don't you think it would be nice to check for updates ONLY directly after starting the browser and not every 10 minutes!? Also how about auto-updates in the background or maybe the option to disable updates (notifications) ???
I just can't see these update notifications anymore!!!
I've had enough. -
@rogerwilco: I'm sure, but note that v2 will still be there for some time even after v3 is live to allow for a smooth transition. I don't mean just Chrome, but Chromium, and thus Vivaldi, too. Google has not indicated how long this time period will be, but surely it will be some months.
-
@benwagner I don't understand what the issue is. In Settings, Updates you can disable Notify About Updates then just check manually whenever you wish.
-
@biguglyboy6: I'm not one of them. The Chrome alternative of desperately right-clicking on regions within the player so you can access the P-in-P function is far more annoying. Agree it could be moved to the top-right corner, but leave it in.
-
Hi @Pesala I can not find any settings for updates.
Could you post a screenshot? -
Unchecking the box disables the Update Agent. Then you should look in the Help Menu from time to time to check for updates or if you have the latest version. If not, then you are offered the possibility to download and update Vivaldi.
Here in the forum you will also be informed immediately if there is an update. -
@quhno: No.
-
@pesala: It makes no sense to have it the way it is now in a Stable version either, so...
-
@joeduffus: Nobody is trying to take away your feature. Leave it in, but have it optional. It's simple and even top-right corner is flawed. There may be annotations on the video to click. The icon shows up on everything like animations, ads, etc.
Sounds like right-clicking is too much work for you.
-
@Vividal If it had not been implemented in the Stable there would be nothing to discuss, so?
It has been implemented, so we have to wait for the Snapshot, then it makes sense to discuss the implementation until it is good enough to be worth updating the feature in the Stable (or we might have to wait for 2.12 Stable).
-
@catweazle: Interestingly, this category does not appear in my preferences. Could it be platform dependent? I am on MacOS.
-
@Gwen-Dragon, sorry, I have not thought about this, I thought it would be enough to make the broader capture he could deduce the location of the options
-
@pesala: as a software developer myself, I can assure you that there are rare cases when a feature turns out so botched you have to undo it, re-release an update without said feature and then take your time to implement it the right way. Undoing a feature takes no effort at all if you use a version control system like git, which I suppose Vivaldi team does.
-
@Catweazle Thank you.
But I am on MacOS and there is definitely NO setting for update notifications inside Vivaldi! I even checked » chrome://flags and there is no option to disable update notifications -
@benwagner Please state your OS in the first place next time to avoid confusion and wasted time that could be spent on other issues by the voluntary community.

@pesala: and implemented incorrectly. Whether it's a bug or a poorly done feature, it being in an official release that is unwelcome to a vocal group means it shouldn't have been there in the first place.
It's happened in previous Stable releases. The scrollbar bug, random crashes, etc. still made it in a Stable build, and even then it was pointed out by users. So why...
-
@npro You are totally right. My apologies.
-
@Pesala Great idea. Done it right away, should be active now.
Thank you
