Sync interval on Android
-
Hi, I have problem with syncing between desktop and Android versions of Vivaldi. On desktop, everything looks fine. But Android seems to have long sync interval. It look like it is synced only when i navigate to settings -> sync.
For example, I want to open tab on Android which is currently opened on desktop. But I can't see it on Android and it says that last sync interval was 30 minutes ago. So I have to go to settings -> sync, just open it, than go back and it is ok.
Is it normal? Can I fix it?
Thank you.

The way Android manages processes, Vivaldi isn't necessarily going to be always connected to the sync server and updating like your desktop browser can. Typically, when I launch Vivaldi Android after not using my phone for a short while, it'll connect to the server and see what needs to be synced within a minute or so. If it is not doing that, I can kill it from the app switcher (recent apps) and then launch it again and it'll start syncing within 15 seconds or so.
You can watch what's happening in the app as it syncs by loading the page vivaldi://sync. If it's not syncing, tap the
Toggle GetUpdates
button and it should kick it off. If not, do the restart like I described above and then watch the sync internals page linked here. You can easily watch each batch of updates as they sync in theTraffic Log
tab, and jvm theEvents
tab you can open up each event to see what was included in it.Hope this helps.

Thank you very much for explanation.

@ondravojta No problem, it was an easy write up as I just spent 3 days staring at this page while trying to get nearly 900,000 changes to sync with my phone. I finally did it though, and it's back to normal. Phew! <BoneTone wipes sweat of his brow>
