Vivaldi not reading bookmarks file after update

Since the bookmark issue is solved, the topic should be tagged as resolved
Yeah but not really. It never should have happened in the first place.

Aparently, if you have some BKs and then activate Sync, they should be mixed.
Then any deletion should be updated. This reiterates my comment. If they are mixed then 0+1=1 then the deletions (all the bookmarks) -1+1 = 0. So post sync I have NO bookmarks like my NEW (latest dated) bookmark file not the OLD (already on sync) full bookmarks which are erased due to the "deletions" as per the empty NEW bookmarks leaving me with NO bookmarks. So is it safe to use Sync to recover Bookmarks?

How does it know the NEW blank version on my computer is the one I want overwritten by the OLD server copy of my last sync? It did it correctly but how did it know which way I wanted to sync?
Precisely because it was blank. They aren't "new", they are nothingness. It is overwriting nothingness with data.

So if I synced then deleted all my bookmarks on purpose and synced again, it would write them all back again? Even though I purposely deleted them and the empty file is the correct one? -

So if I synced then deleted all my bookmarks on purpose and synced again, it would write them all back again? Even though I purposely deleted them and the empty file is the correct one?No, and that's not what you did either. If you connect to sync and delete bookmarks, of course the delete operations are sync'd. You should have seen this already if you have ever deleted a bookmark with a profile that is sync'd; I have certainly been successful in sync'ing hundreds of thousands of deleted bookmarks myself. If you start Vivaldi with an empty or non-existent Bookmarks file, then the data will be sync'd from the server. You're not sync'ing deletions because there are no deletions to be sync'd, they don't exist. If you want to blow away the data on the server and replace it with whatever you might have locally (being or nothingness), do that by clicking the button for that.
Of course, as always, with any data, routine backups should be done to prevent the unintended loss of data. Expecting any piece of software to protect you from data loss is simply ensuring you will lose data at some point. This includes backup software as well.
