Make "simplified view" more subtle
-
Dear Vivaldi team, please do something about the "Simplified View" popup?
It's actually quite intrusive. -
Was this not solved/considered?
I feel it's really counterintuitive to do it that way also in the docsIt's mentioned that the
In case you saw the message, but didn’t enable it before the message disappeared, scroll back to the top of the page and the option to switch to Reader View will be displayed again
Which I can't find to be true! I can't find the prompt back if I dismiss it.
-
@mohamadeen That’s already an improvement though. It used to be the case the message was displayed at the bottom on all pages, where reader mode is available, and only if the accessibility settings had been turned on. Still, I’d prefer manual with a button of course, but it’s not as bad as it used to be.

I want it can reopen at same page.
Even adding a main menu switch option would be acceptable to me -

Hello Vivaldi team,
Read mode is not useful on Android.
I will not explain long. If it works like Samsung browser, Opera or Edge it will be very efficient especially for adhders -
@oguzsahin
Hi, improve what? Make it better is not a useful request, in my opinion Vivaldi reader view is better than Edge.Edge:

hello there,
I upload some pic about itİt is doesnt appear some web sites or if i selected always, it was appear not needed sites.

Opera's read mode is here no social media buttons etc its look clean but vivaldi doesnt show reader option.

@oguzsahin
Hi and yes the pop up is disturbing but this was the feature request already.
Please vote it up if you like it.
I hope it will be implemented at some time.Cheers, mib

The quick access to Reading Mode and simple UI is why Firefox is my default Android browser. Vivaldi is my main on desktop, but most of what I do on a mobile browser is read articles linked out from Feedly/Reddit/Twitter/Signal. The no nonsense UI and quick reading button makes Firefox ideal.

Adding my voice to this request. As a recent Android tablet owner, the main thing I do on it is read. The current reader view implementation is bonkers counter-intuitive. Why would anyone opt for a pop up?! It's so obnoxious and makes it hard to toggle it on and off. Vivaldi is otherwise the best browser on Android by far, but this makes it kind of annoying to use. This is my #1 request, and would be a great quality of life improvement.

It's time to bring this issue to the forefront again, as it is driving me crazy.
The "simplified view" banner is:
- intrusive, blocking the webpage header including logo (home button) and menu
- displayed far too long. I mean: really far too long!
If there's one setting that's badly needed in Vivaldi Android, than it's this:
- dramatically shortening the display time of the "Simplified view" banner
- add an extra option in the main menu "show simplified view"
- and add these "simplified view" texts to weblate for translation

I've filed a bug report VAB-6799
-
Interesting article about setting a Chrome flag to adjust the Reader mode heuristics.
https://techwiser.com/how-to-turn-off-show-simplified-view-pop-up-on-chrome-on-android/Btw, opening chrome://flags may choke your Vivaldi browser. At least it does mine. Just be patient and wait for it to do its thing.

Filed an extra bug report "chokes on chrome://flags" VAB-6929
-
BTW, the option “Non-mobile-friendly articles” as mentioned in the article does not help much in preventing the Simplified view notification.
The saga continues....

@S_Paternotte
Hi, before I set VAB-6929 as CNR(eproduce), it work fine on:Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Lite

HA!
Good that you included a screenshot where I notice that you've got the url bar at the top while mine has been at the bottom for like ages.After setting my url bar at the top, I'm experiencing no choking with chrome://flags.
Could you try again, but this time with the url bar at the bottom?Environment: Vivaldi version: 5.6.2868.29
Operating System: Android 12
Device model: SM-A415F (Samsung A41)
