Getting Basic Attention Tokens for looking at Ads
-
Hi guys,
wouldn't it be an option to implement something similar to earning Basic Attention Tokens for viewing Ads, like in the Brave browser? Please don't kill me for mentioning the Brave browser here ...I actually love the Vivaldi browser, but as a crypto fan I'm now also using the Brave browser even though it's bit of crappy compared to the features Vivaldi offers. And I'm only using it because of the possibility of earning BAT if you want to view Ads and also donate them to the content creators you want to support them. It's kind of revolutionary! It would be so awesome to have something similar in the Vivaldi browsers (cross OS feature)!!! Maybe even the BAT project is something you could join, because that's actually one of the early goals of the project, to release this on many browsers. I don't how if they are really interested in doing this or if they just claim it to appear open minded, but it would be nice to know.

Out of curiosity, what's stopping you just watching ads that are placed by content creators?
It kind of seems a roundabout way of using crypto for the sake of crypto.

@LonM I understand where you are going, I also thought about this.
My opinion leaving the whole crypto stuff out:- It kind of makes the user feel important
- It makes him feel to have the control (get earning and decide whom to donate them)
- I have some very nice websites, where no ads are shown, but their content is so good, that I would actually love to donate something >> with BAT you could (if they are registered as content creators of course
). One example is the Vivaldi website, where I can't find any Ads (please correct me if I'm wrong), but HEY I love this page and I would definitely donate earned money from Ads
- There are many sites with crappy content and you get there through popups or other sensational titles, but you would never support them. But they already made money with you, only because you were on the site and the ads were loaded. Ok, it didn't hurt you, but wasted your time. So the donation would concentrate on the good/best content and the business for crappy content wouldn't be so lucrative any more.
Another thought I had, is that if everyone would use it, there would be many people that don't donate anything, which wouldn't be fair. They would practically consume content for "free". But at the end, that's what many people already do, using a ad-blocker (including me), because the big wave of ads and publicity gets too annoying. With BAT the user gets a bit of control back, because you can decide when, how often and what Ads you want to see.
