Vivaldi does not open file manager correctly
-
I'm using Vivaldi under Manjaro (Arch) Linux with bspwm desktop.
Since recent Vivaldi does not open anymore correctly the file manager (when i go to Downloads > Open in folder i would expect to see the downloaded file in Thunar, but instead FF Audio Converter is opened). Now, i think that's problem with the url scheme handling setup in Vivaldi - but i do not find, where i can configure that.
Any help highly welcome! Thanks a lot in advance

Downloads > Open in folder
Which version of Vivaldi?
For me (snapshot 1705.4), this just opens the Downloads Folder in Dolphin (file manager for Mint) - as long as the downloaded file is still in that folder; if I have moved/deleted the file, then it does nothing.

Hello there,
you set Vivaldi to download location at Alt+P >> Downloads, didn't you?.
-
I missed again one post update (a new post) while composing my reply.
Where do I set the file manager default to handle Vivaldi downloads? -
Replying to myself: I found the solution by creating in /usr/share/applications a file mimeapps.list with this lines:
[Default Applications] inode/directory=thunar.desktop
That did it.
But i'm still interested to know, if and where i can configure the file helpers in Vivaldi (in FF that can be done, as far as i remember).

@e-ninger That was a good solution. Ike (the Arch maintainer) is a great partner of Vivaldi.
Which file helps? -

According to what Arch Wiki says sometimes happens that (audio)managers set themselves systemwide as default inode/directory managers. I corrected that by editing the mimeapps.list.
In Vivaldi (desktop) you set the default download directory using settings.
But my question is: Is there a way to set internally WITHIN Vivaldi the default applications that Vivaldi should use to do certain things (something you can do in Firefox e.g.)?

Not yet. But you could vote for this feature request

Thanks for the answer. I'll do so ..

I was having similar issues with PopOS and Nemo (Nautilus is the typical default). The suggestion here regarding the mimeapps.list worked for me too. This was confirmed by this article: https://help.gnome.org/admin/system-admin-guide/stable/mime-types-application-user.html.en
In my case, there was nothing in /usr/share/applications/mimeapps.list (inconsistent with the Gnome article); however, the list is stored here: /home/kenny/.config/mimeapps.list
I copied the file (using sudo) to /usr/share/applications/ removing all other entries but:
[Default Applications] inode/directory=nemo.desktop
This did the trick.

That also fixed it for me, on KDE Plasma and Dolphin as the preferred filemanager.

If your desktop environment moved on from
inode/directory
to ad-bus
services system, the above will not suffice any longer.See https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/50204/vivaldi-doesn-t-use-default-file-manager/13 for a
d-bus
services solution. At least systems running XFCE 4.14 (e.g. Xubuntu 20.04 LTS) are effected.
